Vista Ultimate doesn't see my JVC BR-HD50

I have the Windows Vista Ultimate 64 OS and I cannot get the computer to see or recognize my JVC BR-HD50 (an HDV deck) when I hook-up the firewire cables.  I've tried multiple ports and different cables.  I've also tested other firewire devices like a external hard and it seems to recognize that with no problems.  PLEASE HELP!! THANKS!

Re: Vista Ultimate doesn't see my JVC BR-HD50

I have Media Composer (Software only) version 4.0 installed on Windows Vista Ultimate.  My tapes are HDV which were shot on HD100 and HD200 cameras from JVC.

Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q6600
NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT graphics card
    4GB system memory

I have an older version of Xpress Pro on my old laptop which runs Windows XP and it will see the deck, but the graphics card and the older Avid software won't let me get the video ingested.  This is why I think the problem is between the deck and the computer.

I know you said you tried firewire hard drive on the Vista machine, but have you tried a different deck on the Vista machine? Just to see if any deck will work.

I know the JVC BR-DV3000 deck was suddenly incompatible with Windows starting with XP SP3. Windows just wouldn't even acknowledge the presence of the deck. I do hope this isn't what happened with your JVC BR-HD50.

    Good luck.

Thanks Charles, but I don't have access to a different deck right now.  I may be able to get my hands on one, but I'm not sure when that would be.

this deck is known for being problematic. JVC has released several firmware updates.

I haven't used one for a long time and never on vista. But you could check if JVC has again released any new firmware for this deck.

    good luck

I've had issues with my JVC HD101E not showing up - solved them by manually picking the driver for it. Go to your Device Manager, see if it's listed in there as something generic like "AV/C Subunit". Go in and pick Update Driver and manually select one from the list of already existing drivers. There should be a generic sounding JVC one. Try that.

I have a similar problem. I have a JVC BR-HD50 and a Panasonic AG-HVX200P camera. My Windows 7 64bit doesn't see either of the devices. I'm not following how you were able to get Windows to see your equipment. Run that past me again so I don't pull out the rest of my hair.

Re: Vista Ultimate doesn't see my JVC BR-HD50

Would it help if I put an adapter on the end of my firewire cords changing them to USB? or would that slow the process down or cause damage to my devices?
