    Avid Crashes on Initializing Audio

I just installed the trial version of Avid, and i am excited to give it a try before I purchase the software, but I feel al little weary purchasing it if I cannot get it to work on my system first.  Media Composer begins to initialize and then when it gets to"Initializing Audio" it crashes.

I have not been able to get the program to start.  I have reinstalled it and no luck.

I have vista 64 bit.  Intel Core i7 CPU 2.67 Ghz with 6GB of Ram.  Asus P6t Motherboard.

    Thanks,

    Steve Shoppman

Unfortunately, the card uses the ADI AD2000B codec chip. RealTek and Soundblaster/Creative stuff work with Avid.

Try changing the drivers to a newer one - maybe even an older one.

I am confused.  Are you saying that I need to get a new audio card?

Highly likely if changing your audio driver does not fix it.

What card would you recommend to compliment Avid?

Creative Sound Blaster Live 24bit or Creative Sound Blaster Audigy Value will just do fine

Yep a low end Soundblaster should work just fine. If you want to get fancy and/or you are a gamer (like me) you can use my card. It works great in my Vista 64/ MC 3.1 system.

I just installed an audigy card and disabled the audio on the motherboard, but no luck.  It is still crashing.  Now with the new card it actually crashes even faster.

Before it was sitting on initializing audio for a little while, now it crashes the moment it gets to it.  Not sure if that means anything.

I'm having the same issue, except I am trying to run on Windows 7.

I have a P6T v2 Deluxe, nVidia GeForce GTX 260, Intel Core i7 2.66 GHZ, 12 GBs of RAM. I tried the on-board audio and then installed an old Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS card - with the driver for Windows 7.

I know trying to run Avid under these conditions is going to be tricky and issues will need to be worked out. Based on the www.videoguys.com DIY7 setup, I did think it would be possible. Although, I am running a GeForce card (not a Quadro) and Windows 7, not their recommended Vista 64-bit.

If I come across a solution to this, I'll post here!

I know this occurs when IE8 is installed under XP. I don't know anything about Vista or 7. Search here for "initializing audio internet explorer" and variants.
