removing a person walking through shot

Hi I have 26 frames were someone walks through a shot recorded outside. I thought this would be a good time to learn something new. So I read the tutorial on using BCC motion key to remove an object. It worked ok but you can see changes in the background were the person use to be at. It also is affecting the two people who needs to be seen in the shot. So I thought I would export a still before the person comes in at and reimport just the background to cover up the person. Is there any advice I can get on ways to remove this person. The more tricks I learn the better.

    thanks

    Hi dew,

Depending on how much movement there is in the shot, you might get some use out of the Paint effect's cloning capability.  You could use it to clone one part of the background over the part that the person walks through.

If you post a screen shot of the scene, you'll get better ideas.

    good luck,

The BorisFX site used to have a Tutotial /Demo clip on how to do this with BCC tracking

Thanks for the continued dongle support

    Dew,

Depending on the shot I'd probably FreezeFrame a "clean" shot of the background and then either use an AniMatte or Wipe to reveal portions.

Alternatively, this is a tutorial I did a LONG time ago which is another way of isolating something that you ccould use in a different way:

Also, the tutorial Andrew is referring to is here:

Re: removing a person walking through shot

If it's a lock off shot the easiest thign to do is often simply put a copy of the shot on the layer above (offset by 10 frames or so) then use the Animatte tool to mask the person out. Set mode to Key In, draw a mask around the person (can usually be quite rough) and animate it.

There are literally dozens of ways to address the depending on the shot and how complex it is to remove the offending part. BCC motion key is pretty cool, but I've usually found it's easier to use a manual method to achieve the same result.

I agree with Dylan - Animatte should be all you need.

There has been just released a tutorial by DigitalJuice on BCC's Motion Key however - good timing!

Thanks guys for all of your help. I will look into the animatte filter. I did use BCC but didn't get the best of results. It may have been me as this was my first time using it. I will let you all know how it came out. Thanks again

Re: removing a person walking through shot

I recently used Animatte to cut out a fly that was buzzing around in the shot during a talking head interview - if it wasn't 1080p/24 I probably would've never noticed... yay for HD!

I took a section of footage where the fly was not in the shot and placed it on V1, I placed my interviewee with fly buzzing around on V2.  Then I cut out the interviewee on V2 with Animatte and keyed him over the new background.  If I get permission from the client to use the footage for demo purposes, I may try to create a "Here's how I did it" video (also pending my free time)
