i´m not sure if the new version 4.0 is improved already....
when editing feature film 24 audio tracks are not enough. also the number of audio tracks with monitoring could be more.
the sound files i get from the shooting have up to 8 tracks. so the first 16 tracks are blocked with that, when cutting A/B/A/B..... then there will be 2x2 stereo atmospheres and 2x2 stereo music, some mono sfx tracks etc etc
please :)

At some point... perhaps it is best to go with Pro Tools. :)

No, Bill, and, honestly, by now I'm ready to shoot anyone bringing up ProTools as a solution to the poor audio features in MC/SN. Especialy moderators, I'll add.
What is your advise to this original poster? Cut your pictures in ProTools as well? Or forget about music, who needs music when editing features, right? Simply put: if you know how I can cut a feature film in ProTools, please let me know how to do that. Don't bother me with video satellite unless you understand how to implement that when constantly revising parts of scenes in multiple versions of 2-hour sequences. Otherwise, allow us to shout about the professional tools we need to cut features on what should be and remain the number one editing platform for that.

Now, if you can really want to explain to me that it is BETTER to not have 99 audiotracks available to us, that it is BETTER not to be able to gain more than 6dB in-out, that it is better NOT to have grouped stereo/surround pairs, NOT to have mixdowns in Direct Mode (which was a feature in last century's MC7), NOT to have bussing, better NOT to be able to stack AudioSuite effects like you can stack video effects, etc., etc.... please bring in a stronger argument than using another application (that doesn't do many other things we need when cutting longform).
Rant not over. Being modestly vocal about these things over the last decade has clearly not worked.
thanks job,
well spoken.
i posted some feature ideas yesterday and noticed that many are already implemented in the newer 4.02 version. thats GREAT. good to see that the needs of editors are basically the same and avid considers these :)

Agreed. How many Symphony-owning post houses are struggling with surround sound?
The list goes on.
