I've just installed MC 4 on my home system. This is my first foray into a recent version of Media Composer and I'm feeling my way around issues.
The first I've come up with is I can't seem to access 'Set Bin Background.' If I click on an open bin then go to the Edit menu, 'Set Bin Background' is active with an arrow suggesting a further pulddwon, but when I click on it nothing happens. A full palette of colors should appear. Is anyone else experiencing this?
I like to set different sorts of bins to different colors so choosing a single color in the interface settings is not a satisfactory workaround.

Try a new user and see what happens.
When you upgraded, did you create a new user and import you settings, or just use your old settings?

Martin:
You also have a "bin default background" option under the "appearance" tab in your "interface" user settings.

Yeah, I know, Larry, but as I wrote: "I like to set different sorts of bins to different colors so choosing a single color in the interface settings is not a satisfactory workaround."
This is a feature; I'm just trying to figure out how to access it.

I got cocky. This is a clean install on a new computer. The only user setting on here was what I assume was a default one that's created the first time you launch: It had my name (I'm the administrator, the registered user, etc.). I figured, "why create a new User's Setting when this one is new?"
But, it was good advice, Kevin and it worked. Don't know why the initial one didn't. Why ask 'why?' Right?
Interestingly, I can now go back to the initial User's Setting and it works as well. Still, I've just gotten started building my new settings so I'll start from scratch.
Thanks
Anomalies like this, especially after upgrading the software, are often tied to corrupt user settings. It's best to start each upgrade with fresh user settings.
You don't have to re-create from scratch each time, though. You can create a new user from the User Selection pulldown. Then, with the settings window active, select File > Open Setting File. Navigate to your old setting file, and a window opens. You can drag and drop whatever customizable settings you want into your new user. This is MUCH easier than rebuilding compiicated settings, like your keyboard, from scratch.

Excellent advice, Kevin. But my home settings are from AXP and my most recent MC settings are from clients' very old systems. It seems like a good time to rebuild from scratch (and some snapshots taken for just such purposes).
In your case, absolutely. My suggestions should be limited to the same software and version releases (3.5.x to 4.0.x, for example).
