Hi there, at QUT Creative Industries Faculty yesterday we suffered a power outage on campus. Our Unity MediaNetwork was in use at the time.
Initially it seemed to come back up fine but later in the day it locked up and no clients could connect.
The Intel Storage matrix said it needed to rebuild. We let this happen and once it was complete we attempted to restart the Unity services. The File Manager sticks on Starting and the server log looks like this:

I have sent to a contact at Avid Singapore who says we will have lost all our data...
We have many student and staff projects on the Unity at the moment so basically I putting this up in the off chance someone has a bright idea about how we might recover the system.
I will be on the phone to our Vendor and Avid as soon as they wake up (It's 6.55am here in Oz).
HELP!
It's unlikely all 3 MetaSets are corrupt. The image you provided shows MetaSet 2 failing to load. Do sets 1 & 3 also fail, or is it stuck in a loop attempting to load from set 2? If you escalate this to Avid engineering, they may be able to recover your Drive Set, if at least one MetaSet is still valid. This may require calling Tewksbury. They've worked miracles for us in the past.
Just curious ... was the Unity on a battery backup UPS?

It is in a loop just repeating what is in that screenshot.
The system is on a UPS.
Opps that was briefer than I intended.
Thanks for your reply.
Here is hoping that Avid support in this part of the world can do something for us. Not sure how I would go about accessing Avid USA.
Renaming the corrupt file let it get skipped and load the next one. We are back online now with no data loss. What a relief!
Very cool. You might want to do several stops & starts to see the MetaData get written and read correctly.
Soon as it came back up a million students jumped on, even thought they were told to keep off the system until further notice!
Will start and stop it next time no-one is logged on!
Thanks
I hear ya! My facility is nearly 24x7 ... so shutting down Unity or TerraBlock is typically a weekend event
Do you backup your metadata in any way? I had a guy from a computing server team with me yesterday and he is wondering if we should be taking backups to another server of all the files we would need to restore the Unity.
As he put it the RAID mirroring on the system drive protects against hardware failure but not corrupt files.
By the time I saw this.... Randy had it covered. Great advice and help Randy.... way to go!!!!!!!!!
James if you ever need a person to contact on this side of the world inside Avid and you have an URGENT like this one.... just ping me but you shoud post here first as the community rocks ( Randy certainly does).
