URGENT - Uncompressed 8bit Export Setting

    Hi,

This is really urgent, so I appreciate prompt replies.  I'm trying to export a 2 hour cut as a quicktime from Avid Xpress Pro for a post production house to load into their avid.  They've asked me to export as an Uncompressed 8bit 4:2:2 file.  I have two Avid XPress Pro systems in my office, both v5.8.4 and one has this setting in the Export settings and one does not.  Of course the system that I need to export from does not have the setting.  Any suggestions on how to move the setting from one machine to the other or find it on the machine I need it?  Thanks.  I have to do this tonight so any help is great!

    Mac g4

    OSX 10.4.11

Avid Xpress Pro 5.8.4 w. Mojo

    PAL

Re: URGENT - Uncompressed 8bit Export Setting

It's a slightly tricky question - because there are a few ways to approach it, and the post house in question will have a way they prefer to do it.

When I've been doing this in the past it's always been make a new bin with the final sequence in it, consolidate that sequence to a clean external drive, and then copy the bin onto that drive. Then taking that drive to the post house they can simply open the Avid Bin and the media will relink to the original clips on your external drive.

In this case it sounds like they want a Quicktime with the edit in it. In which case, if they are indeed using Avid, you could export as Avid 1:1 video. Basically do an export as quicktime, in codec settings you should pick 'Avid Meridian Uncompressed" as the Compression Type, in Compressor Options make sure you have ITU-R 601, Meridian Interlaced and PAL selected - that should do the trick - but is a little risky as DV has the opposite field order to standard PAL, but Avid usually sorts that out, just not sure if the export will.

It is a good idea, if this is the first time you've used this process, to export a short test clip first to make sure it works properly on the other end.

    My opinions are my own.

If you don't find Avid Meridian Uncompressed as an option on your other system, you can copy it from Library/Quicktime and look for any codecs that start with "Avid".

Must think of something clever to go here...
