General Q & A:
Q: Why is Avid releasing this product version after releasing the Avid Media Composer v4.0, Avid NewsCutter v8.0 and Avid Symphony v4.0?
A: Avid feels strongly about continuing to improve the quality of all of our products. While we do not anticipate another release for the Media Composer v3.5.x, NewsCutter v7.5.x, Symphony 3.5.x product family, we will deliver fixes to our customers if there is a need.
Q: How customers will obtain the new editors?
The v3.5.9/v7.5.9 editors will be available for download from either the avid.com Download Site or the Avid Support Download Center (login and password required).
Q: Is a dongle or SW licensing update required?
A: No. Customers that are already running Avid Media Composer v3.5.x, Avid NewsCutter v7.5.x or Avid Symphony 3.5.x will not need to update their dongle or their SW licensing option.
Q: What has been fixed in this release?
A: There have been many improvements in this release. Please check the ReadMe document that accompanies the download and will is also posted to the Knowledge Base.

Thank You for a bug fixes release for a legacy version of MC when the new one is already out. What are the codecs installed with the 3.5.9 release? Are they the new codecs mentioned HERE or the old MC 3.5 ones? I searched the readme for codec but there's no mention of the new DNxHD codecs. TYFYA
peace luca
Luca, after having installed 3,59 on my second XP sys, I could play files created from 4,02 with the new codec without any problems on my XP sys
Tomas
give us the iso files back in Avid Dvd please, no gi files for me
Tomas, thank You for the reply, so it seems like 3.5.9 is shipping with the same codec as in 4.0.2.
One more question: the readme says nVidia driver 169.47, but the utilities\nvidia directory has a newer driver (and no 169.47 as found in the 3.5.4 installation), and the QualifiedGpuBoards.txt only mentions the newer driver, which driver am I supposed to install? I'm running 169.47 at the moment and MC runs without complaining about the video card.
You´re welcome, I am using 182,65 with my 1800 card, no errors and no complaints in 3,59 or 4,02
Yes, that's the correct driver for a 1800, don't know about my 1700...
Bump... 169.47 or 182.65?
bump again
I went ahead and installed 3.5.9 on a second test system with a Quadro FX 560 and the 182.65 driver, after a quick tour it seems to be working fine, still which is the right driver remains unclear as the instructions in the readme clashes with the nVidia installer as found in the utility folder.
Nice to have an update for MC 3.5, as I wrote a few posts ago, but it would also be very nice of Avid to clarify wether it is wrong the readme file or the utilities folder, especially after the messy 3.5.4 release, where different video drivers were supplied for different video cards... I understand that this is legacy software and support is mostly given to the current release, but I won't be upgrading to MC 4 for a couple of months as I'm in the middle of a project and I do not want to mess around with my computer, and as I'm given a welcome (and badly needed) bug fix release I'd like to know how to properly install it.
OK, got it off my chest, sorry for the rant; now please someone (moderators?) provide some info; is it possible to have install directions without bothering Marianna?!?
Doesn't MC complain if you've installed the wrong driver?
Steve
Luca....
3.5.9 is an extension of 3.5.x and uses the same code base with the fixes added. So if you have 3.5.4 and install 3.5.9, the most of the requirements apply plus you get all the fixes from 3.5.4.3 (patch) up to 3.5.4.11 (patch) and then 3.5.9.
As for the card driver....
With this release, Avid has included an additional NVIDIA driver in the Utilities folder. This additional driver is v182.65 and is being included for support with specific NVIDIA cards. Update to this latest driver if you have an FX1800, FX4800, FX3700 or FX3800 NVIDIA card. If you do not have an FX1800, FX4800, FX3700, or FX3800 card and you receive a message when launching the application that tells you to update to the v182.65 driver, you can ignore the message. I will 100% verify with Nora in tech pub's on Monday but I am 98% sure I am right. marianna

Hi Marianna, thank You for trying to straighten this up; to summarize: the readme for 3.5.9 only refers to nVidia driver 169.47, while in the utilities\nvidia folder there's only the nvidia 182.65 driver; my best guess is that 182.65 is the required driver for MC 3.5.9, whichever Quadro flavour, as it is the only supplied driver, still the readme is not very helpful.
After a couple of days running nVidia driver 182.65 everything seems to work as it should...
