alright, am not sure whats happened here.
for some reason my post was archived. the issue not even solved.
we bought a hp z400 and avid media composer, software only.
media composer fails to initialize and recognize the sound card.
the z400 is certified avid editing system. it means we should be able to buy z400 and install and use.
but apparently thats not the case.
anyone planning to buy hp, please take note.
z400 has realtek sound card. and i have only been reading about all the issues now on the forums.
please people. any help would be highly appreciated.
another note. we bought our system from CYPHER AMS.
THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY USELESS. DO NOT EVER EVER EVER BUY ANYTHING FROM THEM.
just to add, we bought avid media composer 3.5.
in my prev thread the only reply had few links:

Bios Version and Checked the bios settings (pdf above:)

And installed the Z400 drivers (supplied by HP)
my drivers are up to date. bios is as well.
Even with Certified System. The Onboard Sound is of no use to Avid. You need a Creative Sound Blaster Live! 24 bit or a Sound Blaster Audigy Audio Card
Which OS?

I am assuming you are using the RealTek audio. Did you try both versions from HP?
I have found that it is quite a waste of time to try and troubleshoot this issue. Just spend $25 on a creative audigy se and disable the onboard sound. Sometimes you can get it to work with different versions of the driver, or switching between AC97, and HDAudio for front panel support in the bios, but my suggestion is just to turn it off and use the creative card. It will work then.

That's funny, I just installed MC4.02 on a Z400 and don't have any problems with the onboard audio. I did NOT update the audio drivers from what they were when I received the machine, and a quick test with Fire wire hookup directly to camera gave me sound both in and out of the Z400, no issues, no error messages. I do not have my Analog Mojo or my DX hooked up yet as I am still working on setting up this machine to take over for my XW6400, which btw I didn't have any sound card issues with either (again realtec audio). Current driver is 6.0.1.5772.
One more thing, I had to change the default sound mode in the Realtec sound managet to 44.1K cd sound. The default was 48k. Don't know if it made a difference, but that's the way mine is setup. Speaker config is stereo, full range front. Didn't mess with the default Jack assignments. Also mute rear output when front headphone is in is checked, and tie up same type of input jacks is selected. Also went into system sounds and disabled all system sounds.
