I'm trying to move a project from Avid Composer on a PC unity system to a Mac-based Xpress Pro system with an attached single disk.
I got the project and media copied from the UNity System onto a USB 2.0 Drive - the project will open in Xpress but I can't relink the media to that on the drive. A friend suggested copying the media out of the Unity file structure and putting it all in the MXF/1 file structure of Xpress Pro and although XP now seems to scan the media and find the files (it quarantines about half of them now saying they're 'not MXF' - which they're not - they're OMF but it lets lots of OMF files through. I've tried trashing the media database files etc but so far no sign of media linking up to the project anyone got any ideas?
I'm using Avid Xpress Pro 5.8.4 on a MacBook 2.33GHz Intel Core Duo 2GB Memory and a 1TB external USB drive.
OMF files need to be inside a OMFI MediaFiles folder n in the MXF folder
thanks - they are there and xpress recognises the file and indexes the media, quarantines around half of them but they still don't come up in the bins
Unity structure is Avid MediaFiles/MXF/editorclientname.1/....
Or OMFI MediaFiles/editorclientname.1/.....
In standalone (non-Unity) you don't get the editorclientname folders, so if your files are OMF, you need to put them in OMFI MediaFiles/...., not Avid MediaFiles/MXF/1/....

You have the OMF inside the OMFI MediaFiles folder on the root of the hard drive, not inside the MXF folder?
The structure I have is Hard Drive/Avid MediaFiles/MXF/1/.omfi, mp3, and .aif files but still no joy
That is not right omf and aiff files go in OMFI MediFiles on the root of the hard drive. Only mxf files go in Avid MediaFiles/MXF/1
Yes, that's not right...
You should have Hard Drive/OMFI MediaFiles/(files)...
There can be no sub-folders in the OMFI MediaFiles folder.
"... OMFI MediFiles ..."
Tiny little correction, it's OMFI MediaFiles (there's an "a" in Media.

Thanks for catching that! Stupid keyboard not typing right for me
lol... i thought it was me that mis-typed it!
Thanks a million chaps - I put the media in a folder called OMFI/Media/Files and it seems to have worked - the media is now up in the timeline and bins so thanks for that - I'm up and running.
"... I put the media in a folder called OMFI/Media/Files ..."
Unless the folder was named exactly OMFI MediaFiles, it shouldn't have worked ... just clarifying.
yup - OMFI MediaFiles was the one
