Hey guys I'm trying to finish up a wedding I just shot. I'm using Avid DVD by sonic and it is being a royal pain. The burning process is always nearing completetion and then an error suddenly occurs while it is encoding the audio. Avid DVD then shuts down and I'm left with nothing.
I'm not sure what to do here, I still have over a gig left of space on the dvd and it still won't burn.
You'll need to provide a bit more info than that. Can you give us your workflow and are there any error messages that might give us a clue as to what might be happening?
Thanks
I exported the files as a quick time reference and then imported them into avid dvd as such. There are no heavy ended menu's. Just a simple menu with six chapters. Menu has no motion effects. The file size is 3.36 gigs with a remaining 1.34.
As for an error message...none. The progress bar reaches the end of the audio burning step and then a windows error message comes up stating that AVID DVD has encountered a problem and must shut down.
Are you exporting to file or folder, if not, do that
Tomas
give us the iso files back in Avid Dvd please, no gi files for me
The problem you describe most often happens when your discs are not defragged.I don't mean only your destination disc.I mean all discs involved in the final process. That includes your temporary storage location!
I explain a little about some settings you should consider applying to your preferences in the following Video Tutorial. Beginning from about 2 min 20 secs into the Tutorial.
Link46 AMC and DVDitPro HD (AvidDVD) part 2 of 6
As to defragging drives: I and others once warned against defragging the Avid Media drive. It seems that it is OK to defrag the Avid Media drives nowadays (due to progess, I guess )But being a very "canny" Scot, I make sure that my DVDitProHD files never land on my Avid Media drive. The media I use in my authoring can and does reside on my Avid Media drive............... but all DVDitProHD files are on other drives. Those drives are regulary defragged!
Good luck,
Douglas
PS. I am deleting your Duplicate Post "Can't figure out problem with Avid DVD by Sonic"PPS. Thank you Tomas(Mjolnarn) for pointing out the duplication!

To add to my post above.
Undefragged drives - especially the ones where the temp files are being written - are probably the single most common cause of this failure. It occurs at the point where the "burning" process shifts from transcoding all the files to writing them to your harddrive.
It is also advisable to make sure that the disc where you have your temp files stored during the process has enough free space and is not the same disc as the final destination disc.

Yes, good to have it all in one thread.
When things like this happens, it will most likely be one of two reasons, both hardware related, either bad drives or bad dvd discs or bad or not correct configured dvd burners.
A third thing that can cause this is to reedit the source file without reimporting it under a new name and exchange it in Avid Dvd, in that case, the ses folders that always are created when you import a media clip will be uncorrect, if you change the source files by doing a little change to your MC project, deleting the ses folders might help, Avid Dvd will create new ones when you open up the app.
I've notice that bit with reedited sources too, Tomas. It would seem that Avid DVD doesn't automatically recognize that the source has changed (I'm used to DVD-lab PRO that does). I didn't know about deleting the ses folders (or had forgotten :-).
Steve
I've had one case where something corrupted in the project structure itself. The only solution was to create a new project from scratch. Make sure any material you are using for menu backgrounds and buttons is available on the harddrive, not removable media.
Trial MC3.5, Using AL7.2 pro, Boris FX, DVDit6proHD, CCE Basic, TmpGe Express4, TmpGe Authoring Works 4, DVDLab-Studio. Canon XH-A1, GL2, GL1
As most often in these cases, I found this out by a coincidence Steve, I just had forgot to close down the old folder from where I had deleted the old ses folders and noticed that new ones was created when I opened up the app.
Works with version 6,4 , not sure about earlier version and not a recommended workflow to always use I think, better to be safe and replace the old media with the newly imported one.
