As I am still on MC 3.1.2, I have a dongle attached.
I will soon be installing a completely different piece of software (from Sonic) that also has its own USB dongle.
Do any of you know from experience whether or not there are complications having 2 different USB dongles installed on the same computer system?
I realise that after I upgrade MC, in the future, I could run it under software activation, but for the present I am staying with the dongle.
Of course, I am also asking the same question of Sonic.

Douglas

Douglas, for a long time I ran with three different dongles attached for MC, Sapphire and Lightwave. Don't know about Sonic but I assume it should be fine.

PC's here run happily here with a pair of iLoks, ProCoder and MC dongles attacched
Thanks for the continued dongle support
MC and Inscriber TitleMotionPro with USB dongles. No problems.
Thank you all for your replies.
One further question would be - How about a USB hub?Normally it is not recommended to use a dongle on a hub.Usually it should be a direct USB connection.Or have you been lucky enough to have plenty free USB ports?Or even added a USB card with a few extra ports?
At the moment my MC usb dongle is a direct contact, but I have run out of free USB ports.
I have never had good luck with USB hubs.
Douglas,
I did run into a problem with another piece of software using a dongle. All was fine until I updated the software and the driver for the dongle for it. As I remember, I had to reinstall XP and I went back to the previous version of the software. After several months a few updated versions of the offending software came out. One said that they had changed how the dongle worked, so I upgraded and have been fine ever since. It's dongle was very similar to Avid's and I think I did something when I had to update the driver for it. (yeah, I wouldn't think would have a driver for a dongle, but that is what my memory is telling me happened.)
As far as the hub, I used to use a hub all of the time since I couldn't easily get to the back of my computer. It generally worked. Sometimes Avid would say that there wasn't a dongle attatched and then I would either unplug the dongle and plug it back in or unplug the hub (either electic or usb) and plug it back in and then it would work. So, not a big deal if that is what you need to do. However, your mileage may very as Avid doesn't want you to use a usb hub. But it did work for me okay.
