Pretty sure I know the answer to this..but there isn't a way to accidentally effect the luminance value of a Red shot when its being transcoded by Metafuze, is there?
The MXF results are pretty dark and before I go accusing the DOP of being too careful in his exposure I want to make sure something isn't going "wrong" on my end.
First of all, when transcoding RedSpace to Rec709, you get a pretty dull picture. It may appear underexposed, but that is because of the conversion.
If you need to have something that more accurately resembles whatever was intended, you can either add a color correction in the Avid editor, or you can use an application like RedAlert to create an RLX file, which you may use in MetaFuze as a "grade" (with curves, color temp, etc). Alternatively, you might want to run the R3D files through BaseLight or Scratch in order to get an actual one-light-type transfer.
Would be great if we could use custom LUTs in MetaFuze with R3D. Not yet, though.
Excellent reponse. Next time I will set up a grade first. Thank you.
And as far as features...I'm not looking to save colour settings but rather the reams of settings from the "details" panel. Something I could set up and then smack onto a series of clips without a lot of fuss.
For instance my latest batch is 246 clips. Every adjustment takes a bit of tiem for it to ripple through Yet it's always the same settings...(same destination folder, same codec, same size, same frame rate, same project name, etc.)
Thanks again..
With the latest version, you can select all transcodes"Cntr-shift-A" and change the settings in one go. No need to set the values over and over again. It usually takes me under 30 seconds to setup transcodes for 200+ clips. You can load in an RLX in the same manner for all 200 clips or selections of.

I think Fish means that if you have a certain default setup for a project, and you get dailies in every day, one would like to be able to apply all settings for that project to the each new batch.
Yup..that's exactly what I mean. And that's exactly what has been happening. If I could set up templates (like Render settings in After effects or Import/export settings in the Avid) where I could choose a pre-selected set to apply to everything...it would save a whack of time and remove the possibility of forgetting something entirely. Such was the case when I forgot to apply the correct DNX setting on my last overnight batch and the results pretty much useless to me.
That would be a good option. I'll mention it to the devs.
It's like the workflow should be reversed; Rather than putting clips in Metafuze and adding a transcode for each one, we should instead create be creating a transcode job and adding the clips to it.
ManChicken:we should instead create be creating a transcode job and adding the clips to it.
Thanks for the continued dongle support
We certainly have discussed that - one of the main reasons it is the way it is now it to allow different encode jobs to be sent to different CPU's in a render farm.

I appreciate that it is currently free software. The time savings for ME with a template option would be worth paying for.
