When a job is submitted to Avid Interplay Media Services - primarily a Restore - where does Avid checkin the asset?
The reason I'm asking is because I'm getting a "Failed to Checkin..." error within Media Services when attempting to restore particular clips - subclips/masterclips - it makes no difference. However when I attempt to restore the clip logged in as Administrator it works.
To answer your next question, yes we use User Access Settings and we designate special access folders depending on the user. However I've also gone through and made sure the any Restore Profile that a user might use, that the Restore Profile's Destination Path has Read/Write access to it. Because I was under the assumption that Media Services would check the clip into the Restore destination folder and as long as the user has Read/Write access they could use the profile to restore their needed clips.
I've gone back and double checked the Special Access Folder settings and they've all got Read/Write access to the Restore Folders. Is there any other place that a Restored Clip is checked into within Interplay?

According to a very wise friend in the Avid Workflow Consulting dept.:
"The asset will be checked into the folder designated in the restore profile in media services. In Access you can launch the services interface (it is the same window that shows the status of archives and restores) and go to the profiles tab. I don’t know why he is getting the error if the user has read/write access. I would try creating a new folder. I have seen some permissions problems cleared up by deleting the folder and remaking it."

We are experiencing the same.
We are restoring directly to folders since using profiles is not very helpful for restore.
If you set the user to administrator the problem goes away.
I've tried renaming the folders and even applying Administrator rights to those Restore folders and that still doesn't do it. I'm starting to think this may not even be User Access related as I get the same error when attempting to restore under the Administrator login "Failed To Checkin..." And that's what's got me really confused because if Media Services can't checkin with the Administrator then where is the issue? Any ideas?
Please call in to support so they can open a ticket on this. They will be able to get you up and running very quickly.
Actually I think I may have figure it out.
The errors where Archive Provider specific, meaning that all our errors were happening on RESTORE01. I've rebooted the Archive Providers and so far so good. I've been dealing with so much User Access lately that I overlooked the Archive Providers.
Thanks for all your help
Yep, rebooting servers clears up a lot. Those should be rebooted on a weekly schedule provided in your maintenance procedures. Are you sticking to that?
