When we are learning something new and we succeed, we tend to remember the success.Next time we are back in the same situation we usually use the same method that we first succeeded with.Even with Media Composer - when you first delete a clip successfully, you tend to continue using the same method in the future.
Sometimes, however, there are other ways of achieving the same success.Sometimes the other ways may be more suitable for deleting a clip under different circumstamces. Here is another way of deleting a clip that I came upon recently.

Hi Douglas,
why actually hold down CTRL when you press X to delete a clip? Just X gives the same result.

A good question, IedjieMy answer is below,Regards,Douglas
I never use that method, great! Or I put marks, or I press backspace/delete to delete a segment(s) when I'm in lift/overwrite mode. Thanks a lot. You support to the forum is outstanding!
When you mark clips, you can also press alt-x or z. In that case it loads it into the sourse monitor at the same time. Does that happen too in the lift/overwrite mode? I'm not behind an avid machine right now.
Once, Scott Carnegie posted a very nice list of tips here. As there are many different approaches in avid that end up having the same result, I intend to develop a certain way of working and getting used to it. It would be good for me to read these tips again once in a while!
I'll include a PDF of them,
[EDIT]
I'm reading the tips right now. The answer is Ctrl-Alt-c.
12. In the timeline, when you select a clip and press ctrl and alt and c, it will copy the clip to the clipboard and automatically load it into the source monitor
Iedjie,
I didn't see your PDF at first. Now I have downloaded it and will take a look.
HERE is another Tutorial with some information about loading clips into a new pop-up window.
