Okay, so after the camera's been on the market for several years, I finally have my first JVC ProHD 24p project. The footage was shot on an GY HD100U camera, and I'm using a borrowed BR-HD50U deck for capture.
At first I couldn't get MC to recognize the deck at all via 1394a. I tried connecting to a third party firewire controller in my 8-core Nahalem machine running MC 3.1.3 and configuring the deck using a Generic NTSC setting on OHCI 1394. It never worked.
Ultimately, I disconnected the Adrenaline box and used the same FW cable that used to go to the Adrenaline to connect to the BR-HD50 deck. Doing this, and launching MC in 'software only' mode, I was finally able to gain control of the deck.
Then I created a 720p 23.976 project with HDV raster, and to my surprise, I was able to start capturing 24p material straight into MC without too much issue. I say not TOO much issue, because if I tried to capture acrosss a timecode break, MC would take forever to pick up the signal again and I'd be WAY out of sync. But as soon as I noticed that that had happened I'd simply cancel the capture (keeping the media captured thus far), back up the deck, and start over again immediately following the TC break.
So far, I have to say, I'm pretty impressed with the workflow AND the quality of the images. I've been dreading the day one of these jobs walked in the door, because I've been vaguely aware of the grumblings over the year about the workflow not working, etc., but I guess it's been fixed? Anybody else basically happy with how MC 3x deals with JVC Pro-HD footage from the HD???U line of cameras?
Chris
Is the Audio in sync with the video ?--- that was the main issue in MC 3.0
