    More P2 questions

    Hi,

Ive got a project coming up thats going to be shot on the Arri D21 with P2, offlined on Media composer at a different company then drives with all the P2 media on plus an AFE/AAF/Avid Bin supplied to me for online conform on DS10.1.

Does anyone know a good work flow for this?

Obviously i don't want to copy all the footage to my local storage to conform an uncompressed sequence, can i use the Media Composer on my system to consolidtae and copy the P2 media from the hard drives to the DS local storage local storage, if so how do i relink/capture into the Media Composer, especially if the media is spread across several hard drives?

I've watched the tutorial on an earlier post but that deals more with clips than complete sequences...

    Any help greatly appreciated

Basically yes you can consolidate/transcode down an entire sequence from MC to get just the used media into DS.

I don't know anything about the Arri D21, are you shooting on an external recorder to P2 cards or something?  A quick search seems to say they shoot in their own ARRIRAW format (kinda like RED) which I don't think MC or DS know what to do with.

    Re: More P2 questions

They're shooting to an external P2 recorder (i believe) so i assumed that the footage would be .mxf using the avc intra codec, if not it sounds like they're gonna have a tough job cutting it!

So basically if in the cutting room they copy/transcode the footage into their adrenaline (at SD compression, assuming that the P2 cards not recording the ARRIRAW format) for the offline then I'm supplied a drive containing the original files and the final sequence bin, i can open the bin on the media composer (v3.5) that was supplied with DS10.1, relink to the raw media and transcode the consolidated sequence to .mxf 1:1 10bit onto the local storage of the DS, import the afe and the media should populate the timeline..

Let me know if this is right/wrong or if i've missed anything crucial, or if there is anything to be carefull with...

Thanks for the help so far..

What you describe is the supported conform workflow to DS, yes.
