Upgraded today from MC 3.5 to 4.0.2. All SD projects work fine. P2 720PN HD projects give me 'access violation' error. Can see the media in the bins, but won't play in the timeline. Using AMA. Any ideas? Thanks

Hello, maybe you should write down your computer specification/drivers/quicktime version/OS...Also write down your workflow.
I did lot's of 720P tests with AMA without any problems at all.
'Access Violation' doesn't say anything other than ERROR.

Try deleting the .tmp and the AMALogger files from the Temporary Directory. You can see where this is set in the General Settings. On XP this should be:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp This should straighten AMA out.

Bob, that looks like the problem. When I loaded 4.0.2, the PC created a 2nd temp folder. When I go into MC general settings, I see the Temporary File Directory is C:\Docume~1\Tom~1\Locals~1\Temp
Does the ~1 indicate a duplicate folder? Should I delete it or just set a new Temporary File Directory in MC 4?
Thank you very much for your help, Tom
I believe you can delete them both, they are all temporary files. With the Media Composer off, trash the files and they will be rebuilt when the Media Composer is started again.
Same problem still happens. AMA opens all the bins and the media shows up (clips turn yellow). Playing a clip or sequence the video freezes (audio plays). Access error returns after I stop the clip. The first error is a Windows error, that is followed by an AVID error. About half the time MC crashes.

Did you follow the advice to first uninstall your old version of Avid ?
Tomas
give us the iso files back in Avid Dvd please, no gi files for me
Yes, I did. I did a 2nd clean install of 4.0.2 and still have the problem. Problem only happens when I'm working with P2 files on a HDD. All SD projects work normally. I disabled AMA and created a new project, imported P2 'clips to bin' and same problem. Working with 720PN 23.976. The same media worked fine on MC 3.5
Thanks for your help
This sounds like some type of permission issue. Was MC installed by a user with Administrative Privileges?
is your user an Administrator? Either way make sure you have Read/Write to the Avid Application, Avid User, Avid Projects and the Temp folders including Sub folders.
Is Anti-Virus software running? if so can you disable it and see what happens?
Bob, I'm the only user/Administrator on this PC. I have upgraded the AVID software in the past and never had problems. I wonder why it gives me 'access' to SD clips but not P2 HD? I can always try going back to 3.5 and see if the software works properly.
Thanks
