I am trying over and over different settings, import to avid and export from After FX.
always having this problem:
the graphics+alpha from the After looks great outside avid.
when I import to avid, the line and text outlines become jagged and blur fx is not H.Q .
QuickTime animation - same (jagged edges - looks like missing anti-alias)
Q.T PNG - same result as above but looks the best from all other setting i tried.
What are the best setting to export from AE so looks the same in avid ?
Raster size ? frame blending yes or no and etc'...
will appreciate a lot ,any help.
Avid MC 3.1.1 , AE ver Cs3

Only Dead fish swim with the current... so what am i doing wrong ???
What type of Avid project are you using? Standard Def? Hi-Def? HD 1080i or HD 720p?
Does your AE project settings match your Avid project?
Here are the settings I use when working with interlaced 1080 material.
Render Settings:
Quality: Best, Resolution: Full, Blending: On for Check Layers, Field Render: Upper Field first, 3:2: Off, Frame rate: 29.97
Output settings:
Format: QuickTime Movie (Avid DNxHD Codec - 709 Color Levels, Alpha Uncompressed, 1080i/59.94 DNxHD 220 10-bit)
Channels: RGB+Alpha
Depth: millions of colors
Don't stretch or crop
The 709 color setting allows for a 'fast import' into Avid. I find that using the Avid Codec works best and using Frame Blending is just a matter of stylistic preference. The blend may look like a more 'natural' blur to some, and without the blending it looks like a high shutter speed. Either one way works fine as long as your field order matches your Avid Project.
footage: SD, 4:3, DV 4:2:0
since i'm using PAL the setting of field is Lower first.
Lior.
hi
i get the best results using the AVID DV QT codec for export and import from/to MCA
it will only work if you use a squarepix comp 768*576pix / lower field
you'll get better results if you use at least DV50 for comps in AFX
cheers

Cameras don't lie yet liars may use cameras
I always beet told to export to avid with frame size of 720x576 insted of 768x576.
Q: comp size changes the raster size ? if i'm using dv50 it means that the frame size is bigger then 768x576?
I'm checking now these settings and i'l be back.
Ilustration:
matter what i'm exporting it looks like that in avid: notice the edges in the end of the florish
this how it looks in AE:
no
Set the Alpha to straight in After Effects.
Render Queue > Output Module > Video Output > Color: Straight (Unmatted)
Export RGB+Alpha as QT PNG or PNG sequence.
Jorgen Persson
hope it will work. checking and i'l be back.
many thanks. lior.
OK,
In the composer window and also output via 1394 to a CRT monitor ,can still see the jagged edges no matter what.
tried to export DVD and burnt it.
viewing on a CRT screen it looks wonderfull ! (few minor interlacing issues that i know how to solve but looks smooth and nice)
watching on LCD screen it looks a bit "DIGI" with a minor jagged edges.
I thinks the way it looks in the avid application is becuse thats the way she works. smoothing things for the user interface is not MC's "cup of tea" (by the way that is my hardware setup :QuadroFX1500,Dell2408 SPVA panel).
Quick.PNG -> RGBA -> Alpha-> Strahigt. by now its the best result preset.
many thanks to all of you out there.
