Hello all, I'm a new member and first time poster, but I've beneifited from these boards alot in the past, so thanks everyone.
Here goes:
We're working on an old project on a new hardware system and in the newest version of AMC. I've been trying to work for the last few hours and it's crashed 10 times. When I say crash, I mean the screen goes grey and you get the message that you need to restart yoru computer by holding down the power button. This is happening only when I'm inside Avid, I can bang around in FCP no problem.
I've read some posts on here that suggest overheating, but since the hardware's working fine for FCP, I'm wondering if it could be related to the AJA card? I'm told we need a mojo box to externally monitor a/v from Avid, does the mojo also drive the software more effectively?
Here are the specs.
I am using AMC version 3.5.1.311
Mac Specs: 2 x 3.2 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM
Kona LH-E w KL-Box Rack
The media is being stored on a Cavalry Raid is connetced via SATA.
Thanks everyone.

As an update, I also sometimes get this error, when I relaunch AMC:
Exception: DISK_IO_ERROR, filename:followed by a long file name.omf
thanks again all

no i didnt, but i will. thank you very much marianna.
I run an AJA box all the time, along w/FCP, Motion, Premiere, AE, et. al. Your problems are very familiar. When I first violated every norm of video conformity (see my system specs) by creating my hybrid Frankenstein edit suite, I ran into those exact types of problems. Here's a suggestion...
Open the KONA Control Panel and select 'Control'. You'll see a dialog with some selections for Default Video Out. You may have asked your AJA box to 'extend' your desktop, that is allow the computer to use an attached monitor to be 'seen' by the computer for extra display real estate. For now, at least on my hardware/software versions of AJA, that's a no-no.
If that is the case, your problems will be shortly solved. Simply disable this feature by selecting Black, or Passthrough... (I use Test Pattern) anything beside Macintosh Desktop, then restart and see what happens.
You won't lose any functionality in the AJA-qualified apps, as they are designed to use the AJA with the software/hardware combination. I do it every day.
Like Avid, the AJA techs are very helpful. If this isn't it, you're looking at a conflict of some sort that the AJA people can probably talk you through.
I'm using an SDI Mojo for all my Avid I/O. Seems silly to me, with a perfectly good AJA racked right above it there in my machine room... I/O-ing everything else. Perhaps one day...
