    Re: Media Composer 4.0.2 Released

    Hi,

    LDani:
We have just (a few weeks ago) purchased upgrades for our MC v2.7 systems, but we got only v3.5. We got the package on 21. september. Can we get Media Composer v4 free of charge?

    camoscato:

    Version Protection

Any customer that purchased a copy of Avid Media Composer Software after September 1, 2009 is entitled to a free upgrade from v3.5.x to v4.0.2.  The protection page will be live today September 21, 2009 at 3:00 PM ET at www.avid.com/protect  The upgrades MUST be obtained via download before September 30, 2009 as the page will be removed at that time.

    Hope that helps.

Does anyone know if I have to update my dongle if upgrading from 3.5 to 4.0.2 or is it just a software install?

BLKDOG: Thanks for the clarification. Please tell me where in that first post I should have seen the fact that it's a Paid Dongle upgrade. I've read it 6 times so far. Don't know if I'm blind or stoopid.

    Re: Media Composer 4.0.2 Released

Yes yes Dog I understand how much it costs and what's included in each upgrade path. I actually have it memorized by now. I STILL see no reference to a DONGLE update (which was my question). I'll ask it more simply: If I buy the 3.5 to 4.0 upgrade, will I be flashing my dongle or not?

    Re: Media Composer 4.0.2 Released

Anytime you do a paid upgrade to your Avid system, a Dongle upgrade is required. So, saying that you have to pay to upgrade always implies a dongle blast. Only with the free updates is a dongle upgrade NOT required.

    Re: Media Composer 4.0.2 Released

    Hey Ronn,

When you buy the upgrade to 4.0 you will get 2 upgrade codes.  One that allows you to start using SW licensing if that is the way you wish to go and one that allows you to go to www.avid.com/upgrade ( like you have done in the past ) and aftering entering all your scoop on the system and the dongle upgrade code, you will get a new avd file.  That is what you will use to update the dongle.

    Does that help?

    Re: Media Composer 4.0.2 Released

Afer reading that I guess I missed the point. Were you asking if you still HAD to use the dongle? or if you would still be able to use your 3.5 blasted one? If you were asking if SWL was an option, then I misread.

    Re: Media Composer 4.0.2 Released

Will there be a change in the euro prices? (like last time)

now the upgrade from v3.5 is 295 dollar, which is aprox. 201 euro

on the webstore we have to pay almost 45-50% more: 280 euro!!!

    that is a big difference!

    Re: Media Composer 4.0.2 Released

We bought our upgrades on Aug. 27 and the protection timeline cutoff is Sept. 1st - any leniency there?

We had to upgrade our CPU's to go from 2.8.4 to 3.5 - which we just did two weeks ago and Apple incorrectly shipped it with Snow Leopard. We have the correct OS now but, I already bought 2 MC software upgrades for $295 each.  We haven't even installed it yet - I could have bought 4.0 for only $100 more if I had known.  Now it will cost $600 more for the two systems.  Is there any break I can get?

    Thanks,

    Nancy
