    BarkinMadd,

The physical shipping kit has a price tag with box, manuals, 3rd party product and those manuals, royalties for the 3rd party products  the admin required to get the box out.   Given that, we eleected to have ONE price for the Physcial shipping kit.

Wish I had a better answer but when all the #'s lined up we decided to go with one price.  I expect that will stay moving forward.

    Re: Media Composer 4.0.2 Released

It costs 500 euros with taxes here in Greece for both MC4 upgrade and 3rd parties.

I think it's a great price. The only thing isn't clear yet is what versions exactly are included.

    Re: Media Composer 4.0.2 Released

    Marianna,

I have MC 3.5.4 and I want to upgrade to MC 4.x boxed version.

In the online store I see only one option for a boxed kit: "Media Composer Pre 3.5 or Xpress Pro/DV to Media Composer 4 Upgrade (Boxed Version) $495.00"

The "Pre" term is throwing me ... is this only for users with a version Pre 3.5 or will it also apply to existing 3.5?

    Thanks for the help!

And when I said 'quite disappointing' that may have been an over statement (I'm not all that disappointed).

For me, the fantastic customer service I received from you when I had troubles updating my dongle for my downloaded copy of MC 4.0.2 far outweighs any disappointment I may have had at the thoughts of saving a couple of bucks.

    You have my deepest thanks!

I checked and they are correcting the text.....  the physcial shipping kit as you know is $495 US MSRP and it is that price for any MC version to get to MC 4.0.  The store will correct but you can buy the there now as nothing will change but the text description.

    Re: Media Composer 4.0.2 Released

the thing is, marianna shouldn't have to be doing this sort of repair work. isn't there some technical or other problem with just about every release and update? why are they in such a rush that they don't test everything before? the consistency makes it appear as if they don't care to test the new download setup, they'd rather let their customers do the testing. this is supposed to be a high-end professional product but the people responsible for distributing the software online don't give the appearance of paying it much attention. market price discrepancies, unclear purchase instructions, dongle weirdness etc etc --- gimme a break.

    Re: Media Composer 4.0.2 Released

Many times in Liquid history and now in MC I have wondered how some simple bugs are passing by the test process.

I think this is because there are so many things to test which is humanly impossible to test.

The users ALWAYS are becoming the testers in some way.

Can't be different. This is my conclusion.

    Re: Media Composer 4.0.2 Released

Thorough testing is important. But mistakes are unavoidable. And in the ever more complex world of software and versions/firmware and multiple operating systems they will only get more.

In my opinion making a professional software product is not just measured by the amount of bugs it has, it is also determined by how the company deals with those bugs. Marianna and Todd do a great job in bringing our feedback to the right person. I hope they get paid a fortune for doing that as it would show part of the effort avid is making in creating bug-free releases and updates.

That said, I always saw Avid as a company that did very good testing, but I am under the impression that the demand from the market is having a negative effect on this. Avid needs to be careful here.

    Re: Media Composer 4.0.2 Released

    Agree, I is about attitude.

In the past, Avid has released new updates every twice month, mostly bugfix but some feature they do not finish in time. This is a attitude that the customers need bugfree software. Also, the long list in the readme about bugs, fixed and outstanding issues, is the attitude of a company who develop software for time critical professional use.

I have not experience with all other NLE manufactures, but I think Avid is outstanding in this case.

    Re: Media Composer 4.0.2 Released

Jeroen and Anders beat me to it there.

I was just going to mention the "Limitations and Known Issues" in the 4.0.2 ReadMe.

    It is 36 pages long!
Now the infamous naysayers could wave that in Avid's face and say," This is terrible"

I see the 36 pages as a proof of how open and honest Avid is to use users.
What other company would be so open and as up-front as this? (It is not that the others don't have as many bugs - they probably have more - It is just that they don't tell anyone.)

Just take a look at those 36 pages and also realise that some bugs have to be given priority over others.
That means that sometimes the wait for a fix for the bug that bothers mainly you may take longer than one which affects many users.

I add y voice to those who thinks that Avid and its staff are doing a great job.

    Regards,
    Douglas
