Hello all,
I am cutting a project which mixes HD footage from a 5d mark II and SD footage from a canon agdvx100. I set the project up as HD 1080p, 23.976. I am attempting to export an SD clip from the timeline and i get some bad interlacing artifacts. When i go to custom settings to change the field order, that option does not exist. The SD footage is actually shot at 24p so i dont know why this would even be an issue, and i guess that might be the reason why the field order option does not show up. Or is this one of those cases where the interlacing will show up on a computer but not on actual video display? Any ideas? Thanks.
Tom
Are you exporting it in the native frame size? (Same as source)

The AG DVX100 is a Panasonic camera that records in 29.97 (30i) interlace format. It uses a pulldown effect to accomplish the 24p look. The actual recording is 30i (interlace).
Terence,
Well, it exports native to the project but not native to the clip. The clip itself was captured 720X480. but i insert it into the timeline and export same as source, which means it exports at 1920X1280. Is it becuase the project is 1080p/23.976 that i do not have a field order option?

Use the format tab to change the project back to SD, then export. I'm guessing Avid is goofing up the resizing on you. It's not really elegant in handling that during import and export.
jwrl,
But what if you have interlaced material inside a progressive project?
I changed the format tab to SD 23.976 and still no go. I assuming the field order option does not show up, even if you have interlaced material in a project. The SD material was shot 24p, but i captured using advanced pulldown and now its 30fps.

You might want to do a search in the knowledge base for mixing interlaced and progressive or wait for version 4.
To deinterlace interlaced media with Media Composer, you use the timewarp filter, settings source interlaced - target progresive
