Hello all, what is with Windows 7? Is AVID MC 4 compatible with Windows 7Idea?

This will be good because of the new Device Manager and my Canon XH A1.

Avid has not yet qualified Windows 7 but does expect to at some point. No indication of the timeline yet though.

    Re: Media Composer 4

Is the video tearing gone in MC 4.0? There's a thread I started about it and it was said to have been brought up on the "bugs list". New features sounds great, but I'm really only interested in one thing and that is that the video tearing is gone. It's a pain to edit something when you can't see exactly how it plays.

Marianna, if you're reading this thread - any word yet on the upgrade pricing for this? You mentioned earlier that you might have more info sometime this week.

Is MC 4 still due out at the end of this month?

Unless I've totally missed it, and please correct me if I have, are there systems specs released? I would like to know if MC4.0 is compatable on Adrenaline. Do any / all / none of the new features work with Adrenaline?

Pricing would also be good to know, especially since release is only a couple weeks away!

    Thanks!

    Hi,

There's a whole thread about MC4 & Adrenaline here.  I believe the short answer is that Adrenaline works with MC4 just fine, but have a look through there for details.

I don't know anything about pricing, or when pricing information will be forthcoming.

    good luck,

We have qualified the Adrenalines on Mac OSX (not Snow Leopard), Win XP and Vista on HPs xw8600 and 8400s (and others based on what is already under the PC qualified list). About the only systems we have not yet qualified with Adrenaline are the new "z"s from HP but that too is coming.

Pricing information will not be released until very close to the time the software is. We will have information for you but it will be in the next couple of weeks, not this far out. Thanks for the patience.

    Todd,

    1) are there any thoughts around for MC to become a full 64bit app in the future?

    2) does MC 4 make better use of the many cores of the new CPU's?

    1. Yes. Many thoughts...much work...no news. Wink

    2. Not to the extent you are expecting. Most of the processing is shared between the processors and the Video Card. With each relationship that load will shift back and forth but the process are still getting everything that is required of them at this point. I have not seen a significant change in processor load with 4.x.

Is the video tearing gone in MC 4.0?

If this is fixed on ver4 then then Avid needs to supply a bug fix for updates atleast 3.0 and up, this is a very very bad bug on supported systems.

    Re: Introducing Media Composer 4!

Sverkalo, i don't know what it's like in Greece but where I live people are allowed to express

"negative thoughts" and not told to "get rid of it"

I have been a loyal Avid user for over a decade and put up with various issues that are never resolved

ie is Title Tool finally fixed so what you type is what you end up with onscreen in this new version etc etc

and I still defend Avid to Final Cut users etc etc

I am entitled to having a negative thought if I just spent over $400 upgrading to 3.54

after spending over $1000 upgrading my pc to one that can actually run the latest (at the time) version,

only to find out if I had waited one more week I would be entitled to the free upgrade to 4.0

This amounts to me spending $400 for a version that I will use for probably less than 2 months

before having to pay probably another $400 for version 4

If you don't care for my "negative thoughts" about this issue that's fine,

I respect your right to have an opinion,

but don't insist on removing mine
