    EditGuy18:
Does the new MC 4.0 automatically apply the timewarp effect to non-matching formats, or is this something you go back and add manually later???

It's all automatic and seamless to the user. No need for you to do anything. the  system recognizes the odd format and adjusts for you.

    Yeah!!  That pretty much ROCKS!!!!

Have just skim read all the posts and did not see this question specifically.

Can I use the capture tool to capture NTSC AV from an NTSC deck using an appropriate NTSC machine template in a PAL project? And the  other way around.

Reason. I get supplied multiple HD and SD formats (any of which are in 24, PAL and NTSC) masters of films for a film festival. The organisers require any combinations of these films on PAL DVDs so they can just insert 1 DVD per program.

Edit add  Or do you open an NTSC project bin in PAL Projects as your way of introducing mixed frame rate media?

Thanks for the continued dongle support

Hey, Bobby, you're probably right.  Guess I'm just a naturally grumpy guy.  At least I didn't threaten to go out and buy Final Cut!  I don't mind buying MC3.5 (or forcing my wife to since my location in Europe makes it difficult) or waiting until 4 comes out if the upgrade offer still stands.  I'm going with Avid either way and have always found the folks on this forum most helpful and friendly.  I promise never to be grumpy again.

Hmmm, for the RT effects to work realtime, I guess there are some interesting system requirements. Was MC4 also tested on XW8200, XW8400 and XW8600 or only Z400, Z800? Any light on this Todd?

Except for the Realtek audio, Avid will unlikely test the it for that hardware configurtion. It might work, it might not. You will need to wait for an individual to test it themself to really find out.

2GB of RAM is low these days by the way.

Just in case you're not aware of it, there's a 14-day trial version.  You could download a trial of 4.0 when it comes out and see if it works on your system.

    good luck,

    Re: Media Composer 4.0 announced

Quick questions - will the new version (and it looks like Avid did a great job from what I have read) better utilize multiple core machines?  Will 4 cores be that much better than 2?  8 better than 4?  And will ver 4 still work on XP Pro? (for those of us completely bypassing Vista and waiting for Windows 7).  And will Windows 7 be supported immediately?  Thanks in advance for the answers.

Yes, according to my info, but only Vista64 was qualified for Z400 and Z800 workstations. Also: those holding out on Vista 64 are depriving themselves of some serious performance improvements. You all should have done that months ago. IMHO.

    Re: Media Composer 4.0 announced

I'm sure it will be a while before Windows 7 and Snow Leopard will be approved. Whether it will work or not on your individual machine only you can answer.

It is never worth the trouble for me to set up Avid on an untested OS. If I had a machine just lying around or I could set up a seperate boot drive to run a new OS just to test it out that is another matter.

Can't afford to have any extra hassles. Have to edit.

Can I confirm that when we say "yes to dongle in v4" we mean "yes to dongle in v4 without added support contract" as was discussed at some length during the dongle debate?

Well those wanting to run ProTools and MC on the same system can't use V 64, which is a shame.

Yes, you are correct that you do not need a support contract to keep using a dongle with v4.  If you use a dongle with whatever version you're running now, you can keep using it with v4 in exactly the same way.

    good luck,
