Has anyone from Avid released any other details about this products integration with the Avid family? Is this just something purchased to use aspects of the current design and nothing more?
I have had a large amount of enquiries over the last year or so with clients wanting to view media online and then create shot lists etc over the network.
Endemol UK have been doing this using Forscene where rushes are uploaded to a server via a web browser then AAFs were imported into Avids. They have done this as many of their shows are shot in both the US and UK simultaneously.
I looked at Max edit as a number of my clients don’t want to view tapes or DVDs and like the idea of using the tags in the metadata to pick and choose shots then only use smaller amounts of space for their media during the edit.
Avid bought Maxedit late July so someone must know a bit more about where it’s going , perhaps?
My wife gave me a choice 'either the Media Composer goes or I do' I had to think about it.
Crow, have you followed the press releases from IBC about Interplay 2.0? WAN browsing is a huge feature.

Why don't you use Forscene for remote logging?
It is a very expensive solution compare to what Adobe included in Premiere Pro. I understand that Interplay and wan browsing has its market niche, but for most of us, it is an overpowered product.
I think Avid editors also need a simpler solution for these type of browsing, just as the pdf-preview in Premiere Pro.
Forscene is one of the things we are looking at but we have about 4 large clients who all want different things and the various software packages and bits of hardware would difficult to get to grips with both staffwise and financially. We have made two members of staff redundant so from my view I feel a we need something that can give each client what they want even if not everyone uses all of it’s features.
It seems at the moment , I can only speak from requests I am getting in London , that quite a large amount of people have seen the various programmes for remote viewing of rushes and libraries and therefore want to head in that direction.
How you are supposed to charge for this I don’t know as people are using less storage at a facility yet the facility is uploading rushes to servers. One of the other requests were are getting is VOD encodes of libraries , for phones and various other new technologies .
I love new software and firmly believe in progression but as there are so many different bits of hardware and software out there that people are looking at it would be impossible for a company of our size to invest in more than one.
I’ll have a look at the Interplay 2.0 BLKDOG.
Cheers
