    Flash XDR/Nanoflash

Is anyone spending much time with the Compact Flash files generated by Convergent Design's two solid state boxes?

My AVID is choking a bit on scrubbing the 100mbs file in the time line (file buffer warning), but plays back nicely.  I'm wondering what the ideal workflow is to import off the CF cards, and then get the finished sequence back out without trashing the HD files in the process.

CPU: HP xw8200, dual 3.4 GHz Xeon, Win XP Pro with SP2, NvidiaFX1400, 2 GB RAM, 160 GB drive, DVD-RW drive, Ultra 320 SCSI ADS TEch: Pyro 1394 Firewire... [view my complete system specs]

    HDV is not a disease.

    Re: Flash XDR/Nanoflash

Hi Bill.. We are just finishing a series which uses Nanoconnect to get the HDMI video from Sony pencilcam HXR-MC1P cameras into Flash XDR recorders. We import the resultant XDCAM HD media into the Avid after two file copies : firstly from the card to external usb hard-drives, which are then flown from Australia to New Zealand. The media is then dumped to a 24TB SUN Systems NAS and then imported into Avid. The original files will be left on the nas until all the series has aired.

The machine we use is also an HP XW8200, set up similarly to yours. We had lots of probs with MC ver 3.5 (buffer overflows, etc), so I back-graded the suite to MC ver 3.1.2 and we have been fine since, apart from consolidate probs to the nas (see my posts on this forum).

We consolidate the final project to external hard-drive and take this to a local post facility where it is graded and output to tape for the return journey to Australia! At present the series is only output to SD tape, since a large portion of the media is currently shot with digibeta, but we did trial HD output to tape for a later series and it looked good.

We are anticipating using this workflow again next year, as it finally settled down to being very routine, with no editor calls to me for tech help!

    Cheers, Stu.
