I bought a Media Composer 3.X software second hand but with a package still wrapped in plastic. It hasn't been used before. (He won it in a contest but he uses Final Cut, that's why he sells it).
Now I went in to the register part of Avids website and wrote in the ID and Serial of this system.
Now, it says it's an invalid serial number!? Tried it more then a dozen times now but even though I hold the damn dongle in my hand writing it in on the registration page, it still says that it's an invalid Serial.
What the...?
As always I'm not really surprised, I did not think that anything that has to do with computers works at any time. But I need superfast help with this, Avid's lacks good customer support and I will not buy one just to be able to install the system, that's just wrong.

See THIS LINK. Are You tickety-boo? Avid lacks affordable support, but this is a matter of personal opinions, I know for sure that many disagree with this statement (and I may be among them), while support is very good indeed. This forum fills the (supposed) lack of affordable support being free and useful.

Glans....
I sent you an email and from the information you provided the system has not been registered. Did you go here www.avid,com/register and try it there? I know that seems obvious but.....
Marianna
I did not recieve an email outside the one about my country code. Did you send another?I cannot follow that link, it's broken. And when I write "www.avid.se/register" I arrive at the "www.avid.com/register" site where I've tried to register (it's there I get the message about invalid serial number).
can you email me your #?
why cant you try and register at www.avid.com/register instead of the URL you are trying.
Which number?
I have been trying to register to that URL, I have not been trying to register to any other URL.The serial and id is correct (in that it's the ones on the dongle from an unbroken package), so I do not know why the registration on www.avid.com/register doesn't work.

Glans,
Looks like the system ID wasnt scanned before the kit was shipped out of Avid. Jane in our licensing group has fixed this so you should now be able to register it.
Report back.
as usual, the Divine Ms M nails it. 5 bucks says there's no report back.

Where work - is a pleasure.
I'm about to try the registration, so I will know in short if it works.
A few questions first. The version 3.X, what does that mean? Why not 3.0?Because 3.X doesn't exist on the register page, is it possible to register any of them? Meaning, can I register 3.5 directly?
I've read somewhere that the upgrade from 3.0 to 3.5 is free, but in some other places I've heard the opposite.
I don't want to make a mistake and fail benefits from this.
The upgrade is not Free from 3.0 to 3.5. You must register the software version for which your dongle is blasted. So, if you are dongled for 3.0, register that. If it is Software Activation, resiter the version of software you have. The highest you can register before upgrading is 3.1.3.

So what does the upgrade cost? And what is the dongle version when the package say 3.X? What is 3.X compared to 3.0? The disc has 3.0 on it but everything else is named 3.X. It's the "X" I'm not sure about.
So, what is my recommended move?
the "x" is a way to represent anything from 3.0 to 3.9.9. After that you would move to 4.x.
The Upgrade is $295 and can be found at the bottom of this page.
$295. And 3.5x is very different from 3.x For more info, read away on this forum - there is a wealth of info about it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but does that mean that when buying media composer 3.X it could include whatever version after 3.0? The disc is 3.0 so I recon that the dongle is at that version?
I cannot find the upgrade on that page.
