    problems batch-capturing HDV

I am trying to batch digitize a set of clips in HDV 1080i using MC 3.0 on a Dell T5400 with Mojo SDI and a Sony HVR 1500. Something I (somehow) did a year ago with the same exact equipment, successfully.

Scenerio 1: FireWire the HVR straight to the PC. Outcome: the deck rewinds to the beginning of the tape, passing the clip it's looking for, then fast-forwards to the correct pre-roll point, stops and then crashes.  When I shorten the pre-roll to 1 second I get this error "Audio/video is unexpectedly no longer coming into the system." I can, however, crash record with this set-up, but neither digitize clips with ins&outs or batch capture.

Scenerio 2: FireWire the HVR through the DV input on the Mojo SDI into the PC. Outcome: less than one second into batch digitizing the first clip I get this error - " Capture aborted due to discontinuity in time code." I can digitize clips with ins&outs but not batch digitize or crash record.

I have tried all of the obvious things I could think of like changing tapes, cables, cycling power, rebooting and restarting in every conceivable order as well as all the excellent suggestions I could find in this forum regarding similar issues such as changing the pre-roll time and making sure to have "digitize across time code breaks" on. I've tried RS422 controling the deck vs iLink as well, but it got me no closer to my goal.

I can't think of anything that has changed since I did this last--hardware and software wise anyway.

There must be a setting I'm missing or something...can anyone help??

    Thanks!

One that caught me out with that deck is that if you are feeding HDV out you also need to have HDV set as the decks iLink input. Weird but true

Thanks for the continued dongle support

Yeah, I read that fix in another thread and I've tried that as well. With the iLink input set to HDV and with iLink set as the input while I am attempting to digitize, correct? Also, the deck doesn't list iLink as the output, but the iLink indicator light is on and set to HDV. Seems strange to me; does that sound right?

    Check your menu setup

Press Menu......Operational Function.... Interface Select and in there check i.link format  = i.link and i.link output = HDV

Thanks for the continued dongle support

    Re: problems batch-capturing HDV

I got it working--for now. I had set the deck, just as you suggested, very early on in my troubleshooting, but it seems there is a special (random?) combination of setting in addition to the iLink output to get the thing working.

After getting Avid to digitize HDV from my camera (HVR-Z7U), I gave my deck another shot. Making absolutely sure the iLink was set to HDV, I set the deck output to SDI and I'm not sure what other settings I messed with but its finally batch digitizing. It's still touchy though. I get a few out of the blue "dig too short" and "cannot find coincidence point" errors, but it'll live for now.

    Thanks for your input Andrew!
