In Media Composer V3 +, the segment mode selection colour has been the same as the in/out selection - purple by default - which is confusing. How about making the seg mode selection colours red and yellow, according to the mode? ie. the selected clips change colour to red or yellow, the same way as the arrow cursor. Then you could see immediately a) that you're in seg mode, and b) which one you're in.

Simple, but I like this idea a lot. It's these kind of small finesses that I think Avid needs.

That's a good idea.

So my new wife asks me about my "Avid Forever" tattoo... I told her she's an old girlfriend who was always coming up with new things for me to try...
Absolutely. +1

Very good idea. Never understood why it was changed in v3.
Not exactly 'on thread' but...
Would be great if the Select Left/Right buttons only selected Clips and not Filler. If you park inbetween Acts of a show and then Select either way it highlights a lot of Filler which you don't want.

Bump...
I too, like the segment mode selection colors idea, but there is a problem in that currently red is reserved to indicate offline status. Perhaps a different way to flag offline clips in the timeline is needed as well.

When I read this FR and envisioned it myself I guess I was thinking that it would kind of be like a shaded/hued coloring to show the selected area. So not full on Red as would be an indicator of Offline media.
But while I'm thinking of it, why is Red one of the options for Source/Local Clip Color in the first place? I can't tell you the number of times I've inherited a project from someone where they've colored varioius clips Red in the Timeline. To me, Red clips in the Timeline is a very bad thing.
