here's a quick message from my Sony rep (I'm using XDCam HD f350 camera) in re: to Snow Leopard:
Subject: Sony XDCAM Software support for New Mac Operating System : SNOW LEOPARD FYI Apple has just begun to ship new Mac laptops and systems with a New Operating System called: SNOW LEOPARD Unfortunately because of the significant changes to the OS current XDCAM Software versions WILL NOT RUN under SNOW LEOPARD.In fact the device may hang once the SxS card is inserted to begin a Transfer. Should you have any customer inquires re this subject please refer to the information below. Sony support has advised that unfortunately Snow Leopard is not currently supported by the current versions of XDCAM related software's from Sony. Since this is a very recent release from Apple that involves significant change to the Mac OS it may take several months, perhaps winter or spring for full Snow Leopard support from Sony. The exact schedule is still TBD. It is therefore recommended to continue using the most recent release of Leopard to maintain smooth operation of the XDCAM software within the Mac environment. For your reference the latest Sony software release versions are as below: As of August 26th 2009 PDW-U1 v 2.420 PDW-U1 Utility for PC or Mac v 2.21 FAM Driver 2.20 comes with the PDZ-1 software or XDT for Mac PDZ-1 v 2.60 XDCAM Viewer 2.30 PC only separate from PDZ-1 XDCAM TRANSFER for FCP v 2.10.0 EX Browser 2.5.1
Time heals everything.
If you are a post production editor, I think you better look up to FCP as an alternative. It has more today. It's just a suggestion, noting more. Avid is good ,but not that good as we talking 64 bit workflow. On FCP you can reach 4k, but not with the media composer. You have motion soundtrack and other programs in the package. If you working with many languages, it's a must, you can write direct in hindi, arabic, hebrow and chines. Avid needs help from other programs...

No offence allawi, but that's a very "trollish" first post. You may want to re-think your delivery if you want to be taken seriously on an Avid message board. Just a suggestion

What is a post production editor?
Wow really ? Cool.
I'll just trade in our four Avid suites and Unity system and put off producing our sports programmes for numerous satellite channels for a month or two while we play with the banjo loops in Soundtrack and make whizzy text in Motion.
Seriously though, we use DVD Studio Pro and Motion, they're great. FCP ? Never gets installed. Anywhere.
For all the reasons stated above.
Wow, that's surprising and encouraging (that you could get Avid to work in Snow Leopard--usually any changes to QuickTime messes with Avid)! But remember that 10.6 boots into 32-bit mode by default, and the goal is to get Avid (and everything else on your Mac) to work when booted into 64-bit mode.
For reference: http://blogs.zdnet.com/Apple/?p=4716
FCP is still 32bit written in carbon, not 64bit.
Job ter Burg: allawi:It has more todayYou mean like AutoSync, AutoSequence, Group Clips, extensive metadata tracking, ScriptSync, superior media management, that kind of thing? Cool, man. What is a post production editor?
That was priceless :) LOL LOL LOL
Snow Leopard is being tested but they havent finished the qual yet. As soon as they do I will report back on what systems and versions it is supported.
Good one Job and cxi2001 - I got a good laugh- thanks

My replay came in wrong place, by some reson...
My suggestion was to a new buyer of imac for video post production.
Job ter Burg....
I have a DOP friend who refuse to work with our RED camera. He is an old scholl guy and he would like to stick to it....
The only problem is that he doesn't have so much to do.
I believe I use scripts in my workflows in Houdini, AfterEffects or xpressons in C4D, but never thought to complicate my life due the editing. Having right workflow is more importante then manipulated solutions.
More complications is time consumption and we don't have that today. I use AVID but I want to save time. It's cheaper to edit in FCP...
"... It's cheaper to edit in FCP ..."
Uh oh ... here we go again.

allawi, allawi,
have you ever seen Avid? When I reed your posts, I am afraid not. Or maybe, you are, lets say, a bit unexperienced Avid user. Using scripts in AE really doesn't equal to ScriptSync. And the question of hebrew and arabic... Frankly, I like DVDStudioPro, Color or Motion, but just FCP is for me real hell.
Never mind, but, please don't try to fool people who are searching relevant answer on any forum.
Started on MC 5.12 NuBus

Please, enough with the off-topic replies.
This is a thread about running Media Composer 3.5 on Snow Leopard--- it's not about "Avid vs. FCP".
I'm getting email notifications on a subject that I didn't subscribe to. Please stick to the subject or post elsewhere.
Oh yes, you are right red ant
so back to this thread. I am running MC 3.12 and SnowLeopard on MBP 4.1, USB media storage and so far no problems
I'm running MC 3.5 on Snow Leopard with no problems
