Capturing HDV footage without Mojo Part2

Hello-  This is a sequel to a message I posted a couple of days ago - see below.  Wanted to find out how I could capture HDV footage into MC 1080i project directly from HDV deck to Mac tower/Media Composer - bypassing my SD only Mojo - and someone said I needed to configure deck Firewire-OCHI.  So I configured accordingly, and when I opened the capture tool in my HDV 1080i project, tool did recognize/control deck.  But there was no audio/video when playing back thru capture tool.  And when I did try and capture i got this exception message - "audio/video is no longer coming into system."  Any ideas?

Deck is Sony M15U and it's recognizing footage as HDV.  Is it possible my deck can't send a 1080i signal out via FW, only component?  I suppose I could try my camera.

And I unplugged Mojo FW out of the back bus.

    Thanks, Nick.

Hello- I'm running MC 2.8.3 on Power PC Mac with 10.4.11 OS. Here's what I'd like to do. I've got a Sony M15U HDV deck and I'd like to bring my 1080i original HDV footage into a 1080i HDV project, ie keep it 1080i. Thing is, my I/O is stil an old SD analog Mojo. Is there a way of bypassing the Mojo and just capturing by going firewire directly out of my HDV deck into my Mac tower (unplugging the Mojoa FW400 connection of course)? I assume firewire is HDV compatible. If so, any special deck configuration/capture settings? Or am I just not getting it. Thanks, Nick.

Make sure the deck is not set to downconvert. If you can see a picture on an attached ntsc monitor that is the case.

Thanks.  Yes, so I set deck so it's not downconvert.  Just tested and Capture tool recognizes/controls deck.  And now I'm getting video and audio when playing back thru Capture tool.  But when I try to actually capture I get this exception error message - "Video signal present but not captured."  Any ideas?

    Thanks, Nick.

Actually, was able to capture both with my Z1U camera and M15 deck.  Trick was to configure a more specific device - ie Z1U or M10 instead of just generic NTSC device.  Now comes the second big question.  With the same configuration, how do I send my HDV 1080i sequence out of the avid and record to tape?  I know the M15 can't record HDV - it just plays it back, but only records DV and DVcam.  But it seems like my Z1U should be able to record HDV.  Perhaps if I tried in camera mode, as opposed to VCR mode?

    Thanks, Nick.

Output > Export To Device > HDV

MC 3.1.3, OS X 10.5.5 [view my complete system specs]

Thanks David.  Checked the project and Output/Export to Device was indeed set to HDV.  But still no output to Z1U camera visible in viewfinder either in camera or VCR modes.

When I selected HDV, I got a prompt asking if I wanted to use exsiting transport stream or create a new one.  Wasn't really sure what this was all about so created a new one and seemed to have exported an MPEG2 that I was able to open in MPEG Stream Clip.  Which leads me to think that maybe I'm just not getting how HDV works.  Can I not send an HDV signal to tape? After capturing, does it just exist digitally?

    Enlighten me when you can.

    Thanks, Nick.
