It's gotta' be asked (if it hasn't been already): Is anybody successfully running MC 3.1.3 with OS 10.5.7, or 10.5.8, and the latest version of Quicktime (7.6.2)?
These are required for the new FCS.
I have been told by other users that this combo does work. I am planning on trying myself over the weekend.
Cheers,
jef
We have a workstation that is not mission critical that has an updated OS. We only use Avid MC occasionally on it, but it is functioning properly. It is a Mac Pro 2x3Ghz with 4GB ram and the ATI Radeon X1900 (512MB), Mac OS 10.5.8, QuickTime 6.5.2 and Avid MC 3.1.2. Hope that helps.
Ok, so I did a small test of MC 3.1.2 on a MacPro 09 2x2.8 quad core 10.5.7 QT 7.6.2 with an old analog Mojo. Seems to be fine. Opened a Multicam sequences and all looked ok. I give it more of a test and get back.

Thanks for keeping us updated Jef. I almost went to 10.5.8 but thought I should wait until I'm finished with these last few projects.
Just to add ... captured some 2:1 MXF via Mojo analog and exported an Animation QT no problems.
Knock on wood.
I'll just add that I went ahead and updated to this config, and Avid has launched without crashing, and I poked and twiddled a bit, with no ill effects, so far.
Which configuration? 10.5.8 & QT 7.6.2?
Running both on my MacPro 2.8 with 6 gb of RAM. No problems so far running software only.
I guess you guys are all running 10.5.8 & QT 7.6???

I am now. 7.6.2 (& 10.5.8)
thanks for the update. I'll give it a go on Monday as well.
I thought I'd better post back. I did my first real edit job with this configuration today. NOT GOOD. I kept getting the SPOD every two minutes. The bad kind that force you to hold the power button down in order to really force quit.
I was working with HDV source material that had been video-mixed-down to a DNxHD track. All I was doing was audio mix and audio edit tasks.
After about a dozen of the SPODs and forced reboots, I booted my system off an ext. FW drive running OSX 10.5.5. THEN, no beach balls.
So, my conclusion is that 10.5.8 with MC 3.1.3 is a NO GO. At least for me. YMMV.
Sorry to be the bringer of bad news.
Jim
Interesting - in a bad way.
Thanks for posting. Your workflow is somehting I never do (HDV) so I can not double check.
It's actually now much worse than my last report. Apparently the crashing caused by 3.1.3 on 10.5.8 caused many fonts to be damaged, and was causing some other weirdness. I believe that Apple has truly hosed us with 10.5.8. It's slower than 10.5.5 was.
I had a clone, so I restored my system back to 10.5.5. That puts me back into FCS2-land, which is OK. I worked with FCS3 for a bit, and nothing big to report there. I do like the new ripple-able markers. But, I'll live.
Maybe I'll try to upgrade to 10.5.7 at some point, and see if Avid likes that any better than 10.5.8. Might not be soon; I have a lot of work booked up right now.
BTW, Jef... I don't think the problem was HDV footage. The timeline I was playing was a Video Mixdown from HDV to DNxHD.
