I need to make the highest quality QT file on my Composer of a project done in 1920x1080 on a Symphony. Can someone let me know what's the best codec to use, thanks
Martha
Hi Marthaskol
It depends on what kind of DNxHD media you are using. (DNx36 to 185x, maybe even uncompressed)
Basically the best way to maintain the exact quality (codec) of the original media files is to export a QT movie using the Same as Source option.
The other export settings should be pretty self explanatory.
This will give you an exact copy of the sequence in the same codec as the current media.
Hope this is helpful

If it ain't broke, don't touch it!
im using dnx175x (10bit) for a red project shot at 4K. It looks very nice, and that is the same resolution that i will be laying off at to hdcam.
Second part? What are you using the QT for?
If you're compositing and want "highest quality", some folks would want Animation codec, but if you're going to the web with it, that would be 100 times to large of a file. In QT, as in many things in life, there is no "best".
For web, some folks like h.264
for compositing some folks like Animation
for broadcast playout, some folks like mpeg-4
for apple workflows some folks like a version of Pro-Res (especially the new 4:4:4 version)
It's all about where it's going as well as where it's been.
Don't trust the internet...
