support email i received from Avid.
It's an estimate- so don't hold me to it.
Hi,
I would like to mention my own experiences on playback tearing. After purchasing my fully qualified Avid, comprising of an HP xw8400 with MC 2.7.2, Mojo SDI and HP LP2465 monitors, I very quickly noticed the tearing problem and I didn't want to carry on editing as I felt the on-screen disturbance was too much of a distraction. I called Avid support and we checked every driver, set-up and config, but the lengthy conversation ended with no solution to the problem. I spent almost a day experimenting with the Nvidia menu, trying to get my Avid playback working smootthly. Nothing.
The last thing I tried was to install a latest Nvidia FX1500 driver of the time, which of course was not qualified by Avid - but amazingly my playback then worked perfecly. Absolutely no more tearing.
This was all back in late 2007. In 2008, I updated my MC to 2.7.7 and everything continued to be fine. However, I recently upgraded to 3.5 and the tearing has returned.
October 26th has come and gone. Any word on fixing this problem? I spent another week with a new client assuring him that his video would not appear the way he was seeing it during the edit. This is more than an annoying problem - it is effecting my business, and in this economy I don't need nervous clients. If Avid will not offer full HD playback on a monitor with their software systems, could we at least ask for decent playback on a reduced sized source and record monitor? No threats to go to Final Cut, no shouting, no cursing - just an honest plea to Avid to fix this bug!
Hi folks... Not sure where that October 26th date came from as we normally dont divulge releases and of courae that wasnt a release date.
4.0.3 just came out and was actually in the works when we released 4.0.2. release cycles sometimes overlap.
Regarding the tearing....
Again this is a 2 fold issue. The first is the NVIDIA driver and the second is the editor. The issue comes to bear with both components depending on your platform and type of hardware. The new NVIDIA driver is being tested and should eliviate some of this but the editor also needs to be changed. I know engineering has this logged and it is a high priority and I am sure are working it. I dont know the extent of the issue within the code so how easy it is to fix is outside of my scope. Evewn if I knew, I couldnt provide any info on when or if it might be released.
As I get more I will pass it along.

Avid fan here- but- Have them research FCP code- EX plays perfect with it.
Bokes:Avid fan here
FCP is software and Avid a system, it's like testing brakes on a Ute to see if it'll work on a Ferrari?
it's non comparable.

My point exactly. I bought a Ferrari and the brakes don't work too well. I'd like Avid/Ferrari to fix them since it is a professional system which I like very much - with the exception of the tearing playback. Taking a client for a ride in my new Ferrari and ending up in ditich isn't what I was expecting, and explaining to said client that this won't happen when we drive to Milan isn't a solution.
Was the October 26th date just hot air or is something going to be done?

Marianna just commented on that, saying that it is unclear to here where that date came from. Wherever you got that info, that appears to have been premature. Still, she mentioned it is a priority to get this fixed.
