Hello,
I upgraded to 3.5.4 tonight in order to overcome ScriptSync issues and other AMA bugs, but now I'm dealing with an even worse bug!
XDCAM EX media from mounted AMA volumes reads "media offline" on the sequence but when I match back, it plays fine in the source monitor. Only the video appears to be offline in the sequence, not audio, regardless which video track it's on. I've been searching around and it looks like Avid came up with a patch to fix this problem, but one has to get it directly from Marianna who is on vacation until August 10th! I'm on a tight deadline and don't want to spend $200 to call Avid tech support. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Hi,
I don't think you have to pay for the support call in order to get the patch. If you can't get through to a human being to explain what you need, contact Todd Smelser (user ID: BLKDOG) and he ought to be able to get you pointed in the right direction.
good luck,Carl
There is no such thing as a video emergency.
I've got a new website for 2010!
Hum I'm about to start a film shot on XDCam EX, what is this story about patch?
Stay with MC 3.5.1 if you can, or wait for 3.5.6 official release, which should be soon.
If you intend to work with AMA volumes without consolidating to local hard drive, 3.5.4 is useless. It has a bug that displays "media offline" in the sequence even if the media is there.
Hope this helps. I'm cutting a feature doc all shot with XDCAM EX, so if you have any other questions, feel free to contact me.
Thanks for your reply, the shoot starts on the 17th of August - any idea if 3.5.6 will be released by then?
We're not intending to edit with AMA volumes, but once the edit will be finished (using DNxHD36), we will relink to the original XDCam files via AMA to do the playout/export...
Have no idea when 3.5.6 will be released, but if you plan to consolidate to DNxHD36, you should be good to go with 3.5.4. It should relink just fine and you can always update your software when it is officially released.
I received the 3.5.6 for MAC version via my AVID rep.; solved the AMA issue!
Note that it's a MAC bug only. 3.5.4 on PC runs OK.

Folks....
The softwre that asdesign references is a CPR - Customer Patch Release. CPRs should only be used to resolve a specific issue addressed in the respective CPR. It's not an "official update."
If you have Avid Support, I suggest contacting support for the release. If you don't have support I suggest contacting me directly.

Although... so I was told.... 3.5.4 on PC turns out having the same issue...
Can I download the 3.5.6 patch somewhere Marianna? Need it fast, in order to finish a project!
Thanks,

You could try a workaround if you need to fix it very soon: Put any effect on all the videoclips (maybe just the video on tracks obove 1 - not shure) and render (maybe a resize without resizing). This fixed it for me. But it really is a annoying workaround.
I hope it works for you. For me it did.
I know about the workarounds, but those will not work for me.
Back to 3.5.1 is no option as this version is very buggy with AMA/XDCAM EX files; many crashes, strange error messages and worst of all - the most important bug fix in 3.5.4 - the audio cannot be patched to other tracks than 1 and 2.
Working in 3.5.4 with only one layer is no option either, as I need to add lower thirds and keys.
3.5.6 patch on MAC works fine, but I need to work on the customers PC for this project, where all footage is in XDCAM EX.
The only option I see right now is a very time and diskspace consuming process of transcoding everything to DNxHD, with as a result loosing all links to the original files, so cannot reload/batch convert when I have deleted the MXF media files.... and that's not where I'm paying AVID the big bugs for....
I really don't understand why AVID has so much trouble in getting it right, as they seem to be the only one... Most of us are working as professionals in a very though and fast business, and no one can afford loosing time (and customers) over a stupid software bug. AVID really needs to get its act together as this for sure will not help to gain back some of the many editors that moved away to FCP... for a reason I almost would say.
Don't know about you people, but I get a feeling that since the introduction of filebased HD I'm spending more time in getting (and keeping) my tools to work than on editing...
Wow, that's fast!. Just received an email from my AVID rep. (Saturday evening late!), with a link to download a CPR version 3.5.4.3 that should have all bugs fixed. Haven't opened it yet, but have to share this swift response with you. I think I'm in my rights to be pissed when they screw up, but they also deserve compliments when they provide excellent service
IT WORKS! Thank you Olaf!
3.5.4.3 is Windows Only. If you are on a Mac, then you received something different.

Correct. For MAC I received version 3.5.6 (see my earlier post). This is a CPR.
