Anybody knows what are Avid plans for Symphony?
Hardware and Software
Thanks
I assume version 4 and continued support for the Nitris DX hardware for at least 3 more years (5 year cycle).

You can keep an eye out for posts by Marianna Montague, the Avid customer advocate, for announcements concerning current and future product development. However, you should know that by the Forum terms of use for this website, speculation about the direction of Avid future products is NOT allowed.

Hey I was on version 4 back in 2003 and that a Safe Color limiter built into the CC tool - one shouldn't speculate here, but you never know....
Hi Larry,
I have no intension to break any rule. I see what's going on with FC Pro and others that their systems are mostly software with heavy computers and so they are very cheap compare to Avid. I just wanted to know if you guys knows if Avid are going to go this way?
Yairoren:Even if someone at Avid knows the answer to your question, they are bound by non-disclosure agreements, the violation of which could very well cost them their jobs. So again I say, watch for official posts by either Marianna Montague, Todd (BLKDOG) Smelser, or Adam Kranitz which will officially announce new products and new developments. As soon as new developments are officially released by the company, one of them will make a posting here. This is a very competitive environment and such information has to be held "close to the vest" until the company feels it is the right time to go public. In the meantime, you can be assured that Avid is doing and will do everything it can to be competitive.
Ok thanks.
Avid are a loss making company so they need to get some sales so new products will come sooner rather than later i would have thought.
IBC 2009 is in september so a good time to announce something i would have thought.
Avid and Apple don't hold to the NAB / IBC schedule anymore. They announce when they are ready now.

I can understand Apple but Avid need all the help they can get and getting some buzz at showtime is worth something
Apple can just let your iphone know
Avid released 3.5 prior to NAB this year.
both Apple and Avid have commented on the cost of shows versus the quality of contact with customers at shows, such as NAB. Meaning, its a ton of cash for not many 'on-the-floor' sales. Of course Avid turned around last year and went BACK to NAB! Maybe there really is something to meeting customers face to face...
Plus, by NOT attending shows like NAB, Avid and Apple do not have to be pressured to release products before they are ready or hold releases until the show (as Terry stated).
Shows like NAB are becoming less and less relevant in a day where user-forums such as these and other internet-based product information is readily available to almost everyone in the business.
