I had this problem last year and am having it again this year... was just wondering if anyone had any advice/suggestion....
I want to capture from my Canon GL2 into Avid Xpress Pro 5.8
It is not listed as a deck/device
And what happens when you delete the channel, recreate it and alow the system to auto-configure it?
Where is the camera connected? Is it turned on and connected when you launch 'Pro?

After Auto-Configure it says "No Deck".
I've tried launching AVID several ways, camera on/off connected/disconnected. Doesn't seem to matter, Avid doesn't recognize or even seem to see the deck.
I should also note that I can use iMovie to capture.... and have been (since I purchased Avid)
My convoluted workflow is as follows.
Capture using iMovie
Export from iMovie in .mov format
Import into Avid
Sub-Clip Tapes
Edit in Avid
Export from Avid in .mov
Import into iMovie
Dump to tape from iMovie
What OS and QT version do you have?
G5 Dual 2.5 GHz Power PC
5GB RAM
Mac OSX 10.5
Quicktime 7.5.5
That is all of your problem right there. 'Pro is not qualified past 10.4.11 and QT 7.3.x
If yo uload up the right OS and QT version, I'm will ing to bet most of your frustrations will be behind you.
Also this should answer your other post. If you do upgrade to MC, you can get a current version that is qualified for your OS.
An upgrade is possible,... I just want to make sure that the GL2 is going to work with Composer pre-purchase.
Avid Xpress Pro was a big purchase for us and I don't feel that we've gotten our money's worth out of it at this point. I just want to be assured that if we upgrade to Media Composer I'm not going to run into all the nuts and bolts problems I have with Xpress Pro.
Well of course you haven't. You haven't been running it on the right OS or QT versions. That's gonna frustrate you every time. You have to check the system specs for any software you are running. If you don't, you aren't going to have a good experience.
It's the same with MC. The GL2 works fine with it, if you stay within the system specs given to you to run it.
Avid tests certain configurations to ensure that they work as well as they can. It's certainly possible to vary from those specs but, if you do, you can expect problems like you've been seeing.
Actually..... I began with Avid on this system using 10.4, along with the proper version of QT. Sorry to say, but it didn't work then either.
Ok, booted into 10.4 and QT 7.3.
Fire up Avid with the cam hooked up and turned on..... Avid spins.... and spins... and spins... never fully opens and I have to force quit and re-start the computer.
Fire up Avid with the cam hooked up and turned off... Avid starts as usual, fire up the capture tool and can't get an input signal or the deck to properly configure.
I'm open to ideas....
