Tried TMPGenc?
I tried it with footage from a card based Sony pencil camera (dont know the model number of the camera but its only been available here for a couple of months) last week and it worked fine. Slow but fine.
TMPGenc has a batch option which will make it usefull to me for that cameras footage in the future.
Thanks for the continued dongle support
I believe I tested footage from this camera with FFMpeg with reasonable success. I used a command-line derived from the one people were using with EX footage when it first arrived: From here
I was doing it on my laptop and I remember the performance being reasonable.

Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to touch base with everyone to see if any new workflows have been discovered for Sony HXR-MC1P footage since July?
At the moment we're just converting the MTS files to Quicktimes and importing them into Avid. Is there a better way as of yet?
Thanks!
Best Regards, Chris!
ive also had to use this Sony AVCHD footage.... its a dog !!!!
i tried everythingf from ffmpeg to voltaic. eventually ended up buying the LE version of Sony Vegas. Obviously sony software would convert sony codec best. if this is a once off for you why not just download the vegas LE version trial which should last for a week or two?
Trial version is not a permanent solution. The damning .MTS footage also brings me troubles, i have to purchase Pavtube MTS/M2TS Converter for MAC to convert it to other common formats before i putting it to other usage. Fortunately, this coverter i purchased is worth paying, cause it works for me well all the time. I don't know how long time we will wait for the native supporting of MTS files.
We have been through a range of solutions and finally cut a series using Sony Vegas 8 to make the conversions. The advantage of this is that you can "pre-cut" the footage in Vegas and only export the media you want to keep. We exported as MXF files suitable for MC. The downside is that it is slow.
In a subsequent test, we trialled AVCHD Upshift and this is the most successful converter with respect to quality and conversion speed. The next series will be run using this converter. It generates .m2t files, which Avid happily "fast imports". The downside is that it is only available for PC. If you need settings, just ask!
Procoder was not a success, leaving us with strange colour artefacts. All the other conversion apps available just take too long, or are too complicated.
We've also had success using Final Cut Pro to convert the AVCHD media to ProRes HQ Quicktimes and then bringing them straight into the Avid. We found this to be quite a good workflow because you can load up multiple cards using Log & Transfer, and then just let it batch in over night... You can also name everything in the Log & Tranfer utility and then use MetaCheater to get this data into the Avid...
However, that said, the fact that Avid can "fast import" m2t files does sound appealing!
