    No recompress while import.

    Hi guys,

I'm using 1920x1080 dnxhd 115 footage and I want to avoid recompressing while import it in the project.

I'm importting the footage as DNxHD 115 MXF. Is it recompressing the footage while importing it as 115 DNx or should I importing it as 1:1 mxf????

    Re: No recompress while import.

What did you render the footage with? You need to make sure you set colour levels and field order correctly in the Avid import options, relative to how the DNxHD was rendered, otherwise MC will recompress. Its also a good idea to set the OMF option under the second tab to 'use source file's resolution'.

    Re: No recompress while import.

The main thing that stops the 'Fast Import' from working, in my experience, is that the colour levels in the import dialogue are set to 'RGB' instead of '601/709'

Essentially to fast import the following things have to be true:

    1. Codec natively supported by Avid.
    2. Correct Raster size.
    3. Correct Colour space.
    4. Correct Field order

You need to tell Avid that you have all those things in the file you're importing. So...

Image Size Adjustment: Image sized for current format
File Pixel to Video Mapping: 601 SD or 709 HD (16-235)
Field Ordering in File: Ordered for current format

Assuming the file is all correct then you should get a fast import.

    Re: No recompress while import.

    Hi guys ,

how can you tell that it is a fast import? Is there any hint in MC while importing. Takes way too long for me.

Importing media encoded with Sorenson DNxHD120 from an avchd-file and I don´t want MC to reencode the file. Can´t tell whether it´s doing or not?

    Thanks for help.

XPP and MC will specifically use the words "FAST IMPORT" on the import progress bar. Wink

    Re: No recompress while import.

    Thanks for answering, malefunktion!

Thanks Sycophant for the import-settings in MC!

Did anyone try to encode some footage in Sorenson to DNxHD120 and then did a fast import in MC?

What settings you use for this in Sorenson?

If I do this I get a .mov-file and then import in MC! But MC tells me something about "Fill video" and not "fast import"!?

    Any ideas?

Change your Avid import settings to "Ignore Alpha channel".  It's attempting to import your file as a matte.
