A few months ago I found a work flow on the Avid site about how to import xdcam clips into MC 3.0. I cannot find that pdf file (it looks like the site changed a lot) and couldn´t find this information in the tutorials. Please pass this link or link to appropiate tutorial.
Basically, I am looking for the clip browser settings and if I need to export as MFX for NLE or for Avid, and which is better. There seems to be downsides to both, and I need to know if I can delete files created if I choose to go the MFX for NLE route.
Also, I want to know if I can then remove (not delete, they are backed up on dvds) the mfx files that are then created in another folder
Thanks!!!

I had a stringer shoot a bunch of interviews for us with the EX3 and our producer brought them back to us on a hard drive, file structure in tact. I meticulously followed Bob's excellent tutorial on importing the files and I can't make it work. We could see the clips in Access for a moment but they all show up as off line both in the Bin in MC and in Access.
I know I should be using MC 3.5 and above but we are an Interplay site and as you may know upgrading is complicated. I am scheduled to do this in the next month or so but this project has a short deadline so I need to stay in MC 3.1.1 with Interplay 4.2.1 for now.
I sent the .aaf files to the desktop and the media files to a media folder on Unity. It looks like it took up space in Unity but all the files show up as on line. Most of the files were imported while the portable hard drive was still attached to the system. To see if this could be the problem I un-mounted the drive and tried a few more. No dice, they are offline too. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks,
John Q
The standard ClipBrowser 'Avid AAF' method is pretty straight forward, but be very careful - if you lose the Avid media it creates you cannot relink, even if you've backed up the original EX media.
Here's my write up about the issue on my website: XDCAM EX Workflow in Avid
The 'MXF for NLE' method will take quite a lot longer, but it will retain a method by which you can recreate and relink usable media from EX clips if necessary.
John Q, it's hard to know exactly what problem you're having, but essentially if the MXF media created by ClipBrowser in 'Avid AAF' mode is created in an Avid MediaFiles directory, then Avid should index the media correctly. Once it has indexed it, the AAF files you have created should create clips in a bin that are online without any need to do any more.
I don't use Interplay, so I don't know how that might impact the process. When I've used the process I usually set ClipBrowser to create files on the Unity in, for example, 'F:\Avid MediaFiles\MXF\Avid6.5' - where Avid 6 is the workstation I am using. When I either start Media Composer, or switch back to it, it sees the new media files and indexes the directory.

I checked this morning and verified that the file name and location which Access reports is indeed actually correct in Unity. There are files there and they take up space. They also have very long file names. Unity is indexed. I don’t get it?
Will the clips show up at all in Media Tool?
Sycophant: Will the clips show up at all in Media Tool?
If he has the Media Manager application as part of the Unity toolset, they will not.
