Guys,
Huge challenge here.
I have a corrupted bin (invalid domain bla bla bla, when try to open), and my autosave to the attic was not working due to a still unknown issue, since 2008 (last bin present in the attic).
Do I have any hope? I DO NOT HAVE ANY WORKING COPY OF THE BIN, neither in the attic.
Is there a software, procedure, or even a trick, to fix/repair corrupted .avb files???
thanks!
Try opening it in a new project with new user settings?
Also, go into the specific project folder and delete the "(project name)settings.avs" file. Then, from the settings folder, delete the following: MC State, Site_Settings, Site_Attributes. On re-launch of Avid, the system will detect the missing files and build new ones. Then open the project with a brand new user profile and see what happens with the bin in question.

I am trying to post the bin here, with the extension .bmp wich must be removed.
Yup ... invalid Avid Domain Header.

I have tried every possible way.
the FILE is corrupted.
If one opens a healthy .avb file using a simple text editor like notepad, it shows a lot of crazy characters mixed with some ascii text. It is different with this file: it`s buggy and it is filled with the same character in the whole document.
I think the solution is at the level of the file recovering tools... maybe a tool which deals with NTFS file recovering...
some extra pro geek stuff, isn`t it?
is there a chance?
"... is there a chance? ..."
Doubtful. Moving forward, make daily backups of your projects on a separate physical HDD.

Are you shure about this? From MC 3.0(mid 2008) attic was moved to new location check this in readme i don't remember exactly path.
You don't provide a spec or what version you're running, but there's also a bug in 3.5 where if you bring a bin made on XP into Vista you may get an error opening it. Restore permissions to the file to allow everyone access.
Sorry, not on a PC at the minute so can't test your bin.

Thanks for the support, guys!
I think Andro has the best clue about what's the issue with my Avid. I am working in a Win XP with the AMC 3.0, and I don't get bins in attic since I've installed this version, on mid 2008.
I've ran into the readme file, and I think the issue has something to do with the installing time. If you are using XP, it's said that you have to install AMC 3.0 using THE administrator user account, and not an ordinary user account with administrator previleges. The same for the first time you run Avid. Therefore you may start using it with any user account.
That's because Avid needs the administrator account to create some folders and files, INCLUDING THE ATTIC folder, which HAS been moved to shared documents. (it was located in the application folder in the previous versions).
I have not been able to test re-installing yet. That won't bring my bin back, but will surely avoid more nightmares like this one.
Still, if anyone have a solution for recoverig the bin, I am still accepting suggestions.
thanks very much
I had the same problem a few months ago. Also not possible to open the bin. New project didn't help. Attic was corrupted, too. And I didn't find a professional, who could help me. (The data recovery-sites didn't answer the mails)
Finally, a friend of mine could change the code in the .avb-file and saved my work of half a year!!!
Maybe he can help you, if he doesn't manage to fix the problem, it won't cost a cent.
Feel free to contact me
Hey Nucker,
Very good news, knowing that someone actually did this.
I have already solved my problem the old way - redoing everything by hand, which was only one day of work fortunately.
But I would like to have your e-mail or some other way to find you. I'd be glad also to spread the news that someone can actually fix screwed .avb files, and give my friends your contact. Your friend can help many people, and maybe earn some money by doing so.
tks
i also thought my attic wasnt working for some reason.... did a search for my bin and it found it in an attic somewhere totally different... did you try a regular windows search for your bin?
To be exact my problem was after an electrical power outage.
This was the error message:Unable to open file 'Name Bin'File does not contain a valid Avid domain header. My e-mail is nucker_kuhn?gmx.de
mine was the same
