Let me start by saying, I really hate to put this question out there. But I am really stuck for a solution.
We have been running an Avid MC1000 v.12.0.? (Can't really remember) for several years on a G4 with OS 10.2.8 and continue to be happy with the results for standard def. However, I discovered a while ago that we don't have copies of our latest upgrade (We still have the original v 10 install discs). So to be proactive, I attempted to perform a backup of the OS disc in the event of failure. This did not prove to be an intelligent thing to do.
Once I booted from the backup/archive drive on another machine, I kept getting kernal panics at boot up. I have spent a couple of days trying to track down the problem, but to no avail. I then re-installed the mac OS10.2.8 and got the computer to boot successfully, however Avid will no longer run. I'm sure that something must have gotten blown out during the OS install. Okay, so the backup is a no go.
To continue my attempts to archive our only drive, I decided to give it another go with different backup software. So I decided that a fresh restart would ensure a quality backup. Then the horror hit me. My Main system is now giving kernal panics as well !!! No idea why, I did not install any new software, did not change anything at all. Just ran some archive software that we have had on the machine for years (carbon copy cloner). Now my main machine is in the dumps too.
Here is my plea... Avid no longer supports the meridien systems and AFAIK does not provide download links for software anymore either. Can ANYONE provide me with a link or a copy of Media Composer/Film composer for OSX version 12.0.x ? I hate to ask and would never try to steal software, but we have legit dongles and hardware to back up my story (as well as our original v 10). I just happen to work in a post house that is very bad about keeping track of their software.
CAN ANYONE HELP ME ?????? PLEASE ????
The Meridien downloads are right below the newer ones on the Download Center:
"Saving the world, one Avid at a time"
Our new websites are up!
http://www.lifenetintl.org/
http://www.capitalchristian.net/
All that I see in the Download center is Avid MC 2.8 and MC 3.0.
I don't have a login or an active support contract. Could that be the problem?
I have applied for a Download center login (earlier today) but have not heard anything back yet.
Once you get your login credentials, you'll be able to get to the link for MC Meridien.
You can also get 12.x patch releases without getting access to the download center, look for Download CPR, should be on the right side of the download center main page. A password is not needed for the Download CPR site. Avid might have end of lifed Meridien but there are experienced Meridien users here on the forums like Randy and myself.

Thanks for the help guys. Glad I found this forum.
I was not able to find any downloads on the CPR site. But I have contacted Avid about my Download center request and they are attempting to "fast-track" the process so that I can get access to the download.
As odd as this is, we run into similar situations from time to time.
When I install software onto the G4/933s or G4/Dual 1.0 that we have Meridien systems tied to, I will sometimes get Kernel Panics when trying to restart the system.
What I have done in the past is to remove the HD, place it in another G4, and reinstall the OS (10.2.8) back on top. Then I repair permissions, and drop the HD back into the original CPU.
I don't know why this happens, perhaps it is something with 10.2.8. But it does work for us.

Thanks Kevin,
I tried that and still got the kernel panics. But I managed to track it down to a conflict with 10.2.8 and the keypan 422 driver.
But it gets even more strange. I had to wipe out the hard drive and start from scratch with a clean 10.2.1 install (that's the version we have). Then I would upgrade to 10.2.6 to install MC software and all of my drivers. Then finally, install the 10.2.8 combo update.
The really strange thing is that if I did the same install process with the OS being 10.2.8, I would get kernel panics.
By installing everything at the 10.2.6 stage, then updating to 10.2.8, I had no problems at all.
System is now running great with MC 12.1.5 and OS 10.2.8.
Thanks to everyone in this thread for the help !

According to the read me notes, Mac OS 10.2.6 is the supported OS for MC 12.X. Could simply be aOS/MC compatibility conflict.
