Hi,
I have heard of many people using 3rd party software to capture. I have also heard that having Avid and, for example, using a program such as Vegas to capture can corrupt the software. If this is true, should I avoid using 3rd party software to capture? Thanks in advance.
First of all welcome to the forum; sorry I do not mean to sound rough but using another software for capture is an unneeded extra step, in other words: nonsense, especially because You will need to import in MC and probably having to convert... too much time as You can (and have to) capture from inside MC.
peace luca
I'm curious why you think you need to use a 3rd Party app to capture? Is there some specific problem you're encountering with MC that is not allowing you to capture and the 3P app is able to be used as a workaround?

What does your Avid say, the day you want to reedit your project again, the media is deleted a long time ago, and you press " batch capture " in the clips menu to get your media back.
Does hdv split have such a menu so that it remembers all the tapes you have logged, the timecode for them, and to what project you have exported the logged tapes, so that you easily can use hdv split to capture your tapes again, maybe a dozen or even more of them, and then use the command " batch import "

give us the iso files back in Avid Dvd please, no gi files for me
Sorry guys, I insist: what is the point to use a 3rd party capture software when MC will capture whatever one needs to cut?
I never even saw in the OP's question anything about HDV.
I assumed that because HDV Split doesn't stop (as Vegas also) when sees timecode breaks.
This is the only case I use this one.
I've not seen a need to use 3rd-party software for capture although I have used 3rd-party hardware for analog capture before I obtained a Mojo (the older analog model).
MC's capture and media management are the best of any software I've used. Unless the 3rd-party software saved your media in a suitable format (using a compatible codec and wrapper), you'd likely be in for long periods of importing. Capturing with MC means you're done when the capture is done. With media captured by other software, in some cases with the proper format and codec of the media and the proper MC import settings, you can have what's called "fast import" which is faster than the normal import but still takes some amount of time. Capturing directly with MC is by far my preferred method and that may be true for most MC users.
Give us an example of why you might want to use some other software for capture, Joel, and then we would understand better what you're trying to accomplish.

Okay, well avid can be very picky when it comes to capturing sometimes so thats why i thought it might me advantagous to use 3rd party software to capture.

Never seen that with good tapes without tc breaks, for bad tapes, there are some workarounds like changing the settings in the command console for tcbreaks
