coverting red media dnx to mfx

    Hi,

I have some red footage that I want to get into MXF format for an edit house.  I use a 8 core mac and with redrushes am down to a 4:1 ratio for converting files from red to dnx hd.  They want it MXF so they can edit instantly.  HOw can I get there.  Should I try apple bootcamp and metafuse or is there a 3erd party app that will do this?  I was lloking at this product to do the conversion.

You can't just use any old .mxf file.  MXF is just a wrapper, you need to provide them with the .mxf in Avid readable format.  Similar to how P2 and XDCam MXFs are natively readable by Avid.  Or you could just import the files into Avid and allow Avid to create the .mxf media files.  But, if you were to say find a converter or something it may end up being the Grass Valley MXF format, which will not work AFAIK.  I've never worked with RED so I haven't had to look into any further yet.

I thought that there was a RED workflow guideline for Avid somewhere either here on the 'net.

I think there is no solution for Mac, yet. Only metafuze for PC.

There is somebody working on a solution for Mac, but it's not finished yet. Maybe you can contact him for an alpha release ?!?

    Hi.

Do you have MC installed on your machine?

If so you can fast import the DNxHD QTs from RedRushes into the MC (Setting up a new Avid MediaFiles folder structure first to keep this new media isolated) then simply put that folder onto a FW Drive and ship to the post house.

    Hope that makes sense.

MetaFuze is tested on Mac under VMWare Fusion

Also, there the BaseLight BLT, which is sort of a Red One-Light dailies transfer system (standalone, though).

Use Bootcamp to boot the Mac into Windows and use MetaFuze. http://www.avid.com/red/

Yep, great presentation. Anyone know what version of MetaFuze was used in this demo.

The versions I have here (Beta 2 ship build Mar 7 2008 and Build 1.2 Feb 16 2009) do not have all the same buttons (select file types for scan) and some of the time saving processes done in the demo do not work for me (Apply project name...  etc to multiple transcodes after using Ctrl Shift A  to select all the transcodes.

Thanks for the continued dongle support
