I am about to purchase a new desktop PC for video editing. I am on a budget and am hoping to find a computer that will work with Media Composer Software that is reasonably priced. Will Avid Media Composer Software work with a a computer that has an AMD Phenom X4 2.2 GHz processor and an NVIDIA GeForce 9100 vgraphics card? If not can you direct me to the most cost effecient machine that will work with this software. Thank You

Thanks. I did look at the requirements but it doesnt mention anything about Vista and the new Windows 7. I am also curious if it will work on an Intel Pentium Processor 2.6 GHz. And if it will, would I be able to install an Nvidia card in the following computer HP Pavilion p6110f Desktop Computer With Intel® Pentium® Processor E5300...
The reason I am asking is that most of the models that Avid qualifies are discontinued and I am looking for a new desktop. the HP XW8400 is discontinued on HP site.
check ebay. Lots of xw8400's out there and for very good prices.
Used is good.

Hi,
tragik_entertainment:I did look at the requirements but it doesnt mention anything about Vista....
It sounds like you were looking at the list with the specific systems. Take a look at the system requirements page:

good luck,Carl

OK so do the Nvidia Quatro cards work in the Windows based PC's and do the Nvidia GEFORCE cards also work in the Windows based PC's and what about Nvidia NVS cards? Also the specs state that the minimum requirements for processor are Intel Core 2 Duo 2.33 GHz, will an Intel Pentium Processor work with 2.66 GHz and will and AMD processor work with 2.66 or 3.0 GHz or does it HAVE to be Intel Core 2 Duo?
Although none of us can guarantee what will work and what will not, if you take a look at people's system specs in their profiles (mine, for example) you can see that some people are using AMD-based machines and GeForce cards and Media Composer works fine.
I'd suggest trying a forum search for the specific nVidia card you're thinking about getting and the specific processor you're thinking about getting and see if there are any reports of trouble or success. I'm afraid that's the only way to get information about specific components that are not listed in the system requirements.
Maybe I missed it but I did not read which version of media composer you want to use. I have tested media composer on other hardware and it works but, depending on version, with limitations. For example only lower resolutions work like dv25, a mojo can't be used, or network speeds, pci bus speeds, are not fast enough for network storage., etc, etc.. So are you going to use MC software only or is there more?
After building my own systems for years I'm now totally running on HP XW machines. It makes me much more flexible.
