    Displaying clip timecodes in DS in explorer view...

    Hi all, just a quick one to satisfy my curiosity really, i hardly ever use the DS we have and was diging some stuff in today and wanted to find the start and end clip timecodes for the clip i just captured without dragging it into the timeline ie. in the explorer window where the media destination folder is kept.  i can see there's a "Details" view but it only displays windows type infomation and not TC etc like in a MC or Symph.  I read the manual (displaying timecodes section) but it only talks about clips in the timeline.  It would be much easier and quicker to be able to see the timecodes in the explorer view without having to drag the clip into the timeline and i was wondering if there is a way of doing this.  Reason i ask is because we're digitizing mattes and fills and they should have identical timecodes on both tapes so it would be nice to be able to have a quick reference as to what the timecodes are.  We're running version 8.4 i think.  Any thoughts?

    NB. the system specs below are my home comp not the one DS is running on, that's an HP workstation, not that it should matter but just for completeness!

    Not in front of a DS today, so this is from memory.

    In the Details window, you should see near the bottom some choices for presets of ways to to view data about clips - much like a bin view in MC.  There are several views that install with the standard install.

    Click on those to change the data shown.  If one does not have what you need, you can create what you would like to see.  The controls are near that selection.  They are more Windows like but give you all the info you seek.  This new view can be saved as well.

    Sorry to be vague on details.  The Help key (which is context sensitive) should be of use here.

    I know this to be true for ver 7.6 and above.

    Good luck,

    Jef

    Re: Displaying clip timecodes in DS in explorer view...

    Check for "Changing the bin view" in Help
    for more precise instructions.

    But there are 5 round buttons at the bottom
    of the Avid Explorer window.

    Marked "I", "L", "D", "T" and "S".

    These changes between different views, and means

    I = Large icons
    L = List
    D = Details
    T = Thumbnail
    S = Script

    The one you're looking for is "D" = Details.

    To the right of these buttons is a list-window
    which for some views are greyed out, but
    for D, you can choose amongst other the
    "Editing"-layout and that's what I guess
    by default will give you what you're after.

    But one thing to look out for is what kind
    of In's and out's that's showing. In could
    be the Physical In/Out, DS Start In/Out
    and a couple of others.

    So check out "Customizing the Details
    and Script views" in the Help file for how
    to get your own personal view. Or if you
    need to check what some other users
    views displays.

    Good luck.
