Software to convert a Quicktime to MPEG2 & AC3 files?

What software do you recommend to convert a quicktime to MPEG2 & AC3 audio? I would export as a Quicktime with no compression (HD edit 1920 X 1080i) convert to MPEG2 & AC3 and then turn it over to be transmuxed.

I have the transmuxing software but nothing to just simply be able to convert to the file to MPEG2 & AC3.

TMPGenc   Cheapest. I have had some problems with it for HD to SD MPEG in PAL

Sorenson comes with MC or possibly as a $295 (?) Third party add on package with BCC package from Avid

    ProCoder 3

Adobe media Convertor (Part of CS4)

    Directly in Avid DVD

Thanks for the continued dongle support

    Hi, and thanks Andrew,

Have you ever done this just directly with Avid DVD? If so would you be able to run me through it or tell me how. I don't see any options for this when I try.

    Thanks, Strider

I am fairly sure there is a Douglas tutorial on this workflow.

My use of Avid DVD with HD source was to a Blu Ray disk. By choice I uses a HD QT ref file from Avid and ProCoder or Sorenson for the downconvert to SD MPEG 2 and AC3..

If you have Avid DVD is it a fair assumption you have Sorenson? The latest version of SS seems to have speeded up the encode considerably

Thanks for the continued dongle support

i use sorenson for mpeg2 with truly great results, though i don't think the version that ships with MC has an AC3 codec.  i think the very newest version of sorenson does have this.

here is a link to a free WAV to AC3 encoder that i've used with great results.  its easy to use & runs right out of a folder on your desktop, no installation required.  http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Audio/Audio-CD-Rippers-Encoders/WAV-to-AC3-Encoder.shtml

I use TMPGEnc 4.0 Xpress with best results. It is available as demo version. So you can try it and see the results, befor you buy.
