    Exporting Mpeg2 & AC3

Now - this may seem like a simpleton's question, however I cannot see how to do it.

I have been requested to export an edit as an mpeg2 with seperate AC3 audio (this is an HD 1920 1080i project).

There is no listed setting for exporting mpeg2. Only mpeg4 which comes out pixelated and mpeg250mbt which for some reason will not export 16x9.

Also not sure how to export AC3 as I don;t see this in the settings. Am I missing something simple or do I need an outside software to do this exactly. I have Media Composer Software only version from 2002.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Export a QT ref to Sorenson and choose to encode an elementary MPEG2 with AC3 Audio.

    Re: Exporting Mpeg2 & AC3

Thanks so much for answering me again.

I went to the settings and selected to export as a quicktime reference. After that I do not see anywhere I can select to make this a Sorenson or select to encode an elementary MPEG2 with AC3 audio. Perhaps I am not looking in the right place but it's not in the selection window anywhere so I'm not sure.

    Strider,
I think that BLKDG means that you should export a QT reference file.
Then import the QT reference file into Sorenson Squeeze.
From inside Squeeze you should choose the transcode options to give you elementary MPEG2 and AC3 streams.

Sorry I can't help you in more detail as I am not at home with Squeeze.

    Good luck.

    Douglas

Oh I see. Thanks Douglas - I don't have Sorenson Squeeze but I just downloaded the trial version and I'll try that now.

What other apps are you using Strider, another way to do it, is to export as a elementary stream to get the video and then convert the audio to AC3 with an external encoder, there are free ones for that I think.

FFMPEGGUI has been around forever and does a good job with AC3    www.free-codecs.com/download/ffmpegGUI.htm

Thanks for the continued dongle support

    Re: Exporting Mpeg2 & AC3

To be honest I have not been using any other apps and I usually just export as Quicktime and have had no problems. Now I'm being requested to do mpeg2 & AC3 and I had expected to simply be able to do this within the Avid without an external app.

I see that there is an Avid MPEG2 50 mbit setting but there does not seem to be a way to change the setting on this. I would need to do it at MPEG2 15 mbit. Do you know of a way I can change this?

If not then I suppose i'll have to get an external app to do this.

    Thanks,

    Re: Exporting Mpeg2 & AC3

Just press " export to elementary stream" as described and you will get a 25 mbps mpeg file, this from Media Composer in case you misunderstood.

15 mbps is not standard, from where have you got those settings.

The audio is easiest encoded with the free app linked by Andrew.

Thank you very much. How do I export to an elementary stream exactly? I don't see how to do this.

There is no such option under HDV in my Avid. Is there another way?
