...on DS10 doesn't work as 7.6 did.Fault or Feature?Previously (i.e. on v7.6) if you just wanted the video from a clip containing both video and audio to end up on the timeline you just "disabled" the source audio...and then it didn't matter if you used the Overwrite-button, the shortcut B or dragged and dropped the the selected piece to the timeline. No audio was ever put on any of the audiotracks. With version 10, using the Overwrite-button or the shortcut B gives the same behaviour, but dragging a clip to the timeline always gives you a new audio-clip on the timeline whether you want it or not.Even of you un-check the "Live-track" checkmark for every audiotrack on the timeline a "drag 'n drop" will create a new audio-track and put the audio on that. And this is not the way v7.6 behaves. So, fault or feature?//mike
The Devs are aware of this change. It also annoys me.

I miss the feature on DS 4.0 where you just click on the tracks you want overwritten... and voila!
You get what you need when you want it. No extras. :D
I agree, this "feature" on DS10 needs to be rectified, I hope .
Marpan, I'm not sure we mean the same thing, see picture below, but if we do, yeah it was immensely missed when it disappeared.
And I think that function still was there in v5, because this screen-grab is from the v5 user guide. But the "track selection" in this picture only shows the option to change what's going to a video-track. Probably because this "Getting started"-clip only contained video. Normally a clip containing both video and audio would show "v1" and "a1" on the "source side".And this might not seem as a big thing to groan about and it probably wouldn't be, if one kept using just 2 to 3 layers or something. But when you end up with 15-20 layers and have to race (Media Composer vertically wise) up and down the timeline just to hit the right destination track. Well, then it gets tiresome compared to when you just (as i v4, v5) choose the destination tracks in a couple of list boxes. And what was disappointing at the time, when the change to the Media Composer way of track selecting was made, was that there was no "backwards-compability-option" to use the old style of track selection. Like we don't care about the old users, they have to adapt, "Objection overruled".And this is one thing that seem to have stuck in my mind from the diifferent Discreet demo's of Flame, Flint or Smoke I've been to these last years. They seem to have cared for there old user-base and kept a lot of the ways of working in the old way while they also have introduced new ways of working. Finally, another thing I used to miss from that period was the LARGE trimview window that by default appeared on the left sceen. You could use the (large) trimview while still retaining the source/record view.
Probably wouldn't make much sence nowadays when working with one monitor, but then it did, I think.//mike
hello mike,
Yes, that's the same track selector i miss from the earlier versions- just click on the track(s) you want and it will be done, specifically vers 4 ( this is the only version i am used to before v10) so probably it will just be a matter of time before i get used to the new workarounds. So, from time to time i have to delete an unnecessary track created by the insert.
I admit there's still lots of feature i have to master and smoothen my workflow. I am wondering if there are comprehensive tutorials and shortcuts lying about somewhere.
best regards,
Mario

Finally, another thing I used to miss from that period was the LARGE trimview window that by default appeared on the left sceen. You could use the (large) trimview while still retaining the source/record view.
So why not add it in? Go to "Layout - Edit Layout" and add it to the left side of your monitor. Right click and "set view - single instance views - trim".
Easy right?
